Can some one help me please? When the census were taken in 1800 thru 1890 were they taken of only who was in the household on the date the census were taken OR was it who Lived in the household on date the census was taken. I have been told both ways. Thanks for any help. Shirley (Pitts) Bennett
When it comes to census they have found everything depended on the census taker and what info the family would provide for him. Also you have to take in account they have found that some census takers didn't even ask some of the families because they knew them so they would write down what they thought the info was. At best it is all a guess. You just have to lay all the census out on an individual and try to piece together what you have taking into account we are all human and bound to play jokes, make mistakes, miss spell and basically act human.
