I am trying to determine if W.W.Martin was related to or friends to my ggrandparents Daniel Carter Stewart or his wife Sarah Elizabeth Susannah Holcombe?Stewart,as the letters from him were addressed to them. I suspect they were friends and that the terms son and daughter may have been meant for friendly terms,still there is a question about that.Do you have W.W.Martin's birthdate,he may have been too young to be her father or step father? I had a family member state they thought she may have been a Martin,although I Have an old letter to a Pension Commissioner in Washington,DC. suggesting that her father was a Samuel Holcombe,who may have inlisted in Dalonega Ga.and died in a war, no date,possibly under (Capt.Wofford??), he also may have been in the Mexican war. Her Mother returned from upper Ga. to her family in Pickens co.Sc Also wondering if W.W.Martin had a connection to a School on Martin School Rd.near Mile Creek Rd.in Pickens co.SC. My ggrandmother may have been a school teacher and lived off Mile Creek Rd. The heading on the letter,suggesting that W.W.Martin may have worked at this courthouse goes, Office of J.M.Stewart Clerk of Court Common Pleas Pickens C.H.S.C. Oct 25th 1894 I also have an old letter written by D.W.(D.P.?)Spearman (three initial before Spearman) to Daniel Carter Stewart. (Part of this letter on the right side is missing,so I will put here what I can make out.) Dear Brother and family yours of the 4th at hand and glad to hear you are all well satisfied at your new home,but sorry you have gone so far and glad you got there all right.if I am not mistaken there is 4 dollars and 030 cents behind if I am mistaken ......correct me. The ....is all right as far as ....... but if they have .......... I did not know............ Me and Mary ran into ? to Mack Cantrall at ....... last Sunday and saw several of our folks and heard from the (maybe Stewarts ?) ........all of them ......well and getting along well Edd Nelson is going to move within about six miles of us......... in about 1 mile of Liberty I will be apt to see them when they move All is well and sends their love and best wishes to to you all, write soon and let know how you are getting along.
