(I went to the Archives Saturday.) I even verified that J.S. Lawless also served in Company K, and the only thing I can figure is that the letters changed when the companies were reorganized later in the war. I also see that the very next pension application is James Mason, and it seems logical that he'd be Elias' brother. I can't apologize enough for my confusion. As I said, I don't claim to be a genealogy pro....I'm still learning as I go. If you aren't too offended, I'd still like to find out why you think Martha is Bennett Hyde's daughter.
