Ronnie, I do not know the father of Samuel Hall. According to his Civil War service record, he enlisted in Co. G, 1st SC Artillery on Sept 7, 1861 at Walhalla. He was 27 years old then (b. about 1834) and was born in Greenville. He died on Nov 27, 1861 in the hospital at Charleston. His widow was Sarah Hall and her witness was Joel Shed (her father). He is shown on the 1860 census, South Carolina roll #1225, 2nd Regiment, District of Pickens, Post Office Whetstone, page 62, Family 959 Samuel Hall, age 25, a farmer, personal estate $100, born SC Sarah M., wife, age 23, born SC Martha, age 3, born SC Ehraim, age 7/12, born SC (note: a daughter Nancy was born in 1861) His widow, Sarah moved to Montana in 1872 and remarried there. While in Montana, she prepared a family history sheet that shows that Samuel Hall was born in Greenville SC and that his parents were C. C. and Sarah Hall. I found the following census listing for a Chris and Sally Hall in Pickens county in 1860 and a Christopher and Sally Hall in Greenville county in 1850 and 1840. I do not know if any of these are related to Samuel Hall. 1860 SC, Page 71, 2nd Reg, Pickens, PO Malhalla, SC Chris Hall, age 70 born SC, $70, Farm Laborer Sally Hall, age 67, born SC Children: Amy 40, Martha 25, Chaney 22, Sarah 18, Masina 8, James M. 1. all born in SC 1850 SC, page 327-8, Greenville county, SC dated Aug 2, 1850 Christopher Hall, age 60 born SC Sally Hall, age 60 born SC Children: Amy 35, Patsey 25, Phobe 23, Lelty (F) 20, Nancy 20, Samuel 18 (could this be my Samuel ???), Elisa 12, Thomas 4, Caroline 3, Mariah 1, Sarah 7. all born SC 1840 SC, page 238, Greenville county, SC Christopher Hall Males: <5 = 1, 5-10 = 1, 40-50 = 1 Females: 5-10 = 2, 10-15 = 3, 20-30 = 1, 40-50 = 1 Total = 10, 1 employed in agriculture =1 # of white persons over 20 who cannot read & write = 1 1870 SC M593 roll 1498 page 482 Christopher Hall 74 Bates Twp, Greenville Co.
