    1. [SCPICKENS] Boren's in 1910 Pickens Census
    2. Hi Michael! Thanks for the info!! I have a cd of the 1910 Pickens census that Traci Parsons-Holder sent me once. I had transcribed the 1900 Pickens, but the floppy messed up and I cannot find my original notes. Need to get back on that. The 1900 is very hard to read. The 1910 is somewhat better. The Mary A. whose last name and husband's name you could not read was more than likely Jincy Boren's sister, Mary Ann Boren who married Arkelus Ates. Mary Ann died soon after the census in July 1912. I have no information as to when Jincy Boren died but must be before 1910. I have a Sarah Boren born abt 1865 that was a daughter of Jincy Boren. This could be the Sarah A. Boren that is in the 1910 Pickens Census. Silas Miles Boren was the son of Clarinda Boren-sister to Jincy and Mary Ann. Again, thanks for the info!! Could you send me the page numbers of these? I would like to look them up and see who the neighbors were. Patricia Cantrell

    3. Hi Patricia, If you are looking at Heritage Quest's CD Images, the numbers are as follows: 1910 SC - Pickens Boren, Della Part 2 Page 196 A Boren, Sarah Part 2 Page 282 A Boren, Silas Part 2 Page 173 A If you can give me an ED #, I'll check for any Borens in the 1930 SC - Pickens census as well. The 1930 census is pretty clean. Also, if you would like, I can put images of the 1910 and 1930 census pages that show a Borens in a zip file and email them to you. That way, you can print them out to use as "hard-copy" sources. No future "floppy" mishaps that way! :-) Cheers, Michael http://www.SCGenealogy.com ----- Original Message ----- From: <PACA1509@aol.com> To: <SCPICKEN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, July 08, 2003 6:02 PM Subject: [SCPICKENS] Boren's in 1910 Pickens Census > Hi Michael! > Thanks for the info!! While doing some research into one of my family lines, I came across a Bowie (of Pickens Co.) connection. So, I looked up some websites on the Bowie's and found a Robertson connection. Some of my family in Laurens Co, SC and Pickens/Oconee Co, SC married into a Robertson family. Since the families lived so close in what is now Oconee Co, I got curious about them. On the Oconee Co genweb site, the 1900 census lists Mary J. Robertson as a teacher along with her siblings, Cora A. and James A. both listed as teachers also and partners. There is also a Mattie I. as a teacher/partner and a Nancy A. as a partner. Mary Jane Robertson married Erskine Calhoun Bowie (son of George Franklin Bowie and Harriett Nimmons.) Her cousin, Thomas Boone Robertson married Nancy Keturah Bowie, a sister to Erskine Calhoun Bowie. My ggg-grandfather, James/John Chappell is supposedly buried in the old Bowie cemetery in Pickens Co (possibly the Nimmons cemetery.) His son, Andrew Jackson Chappell married Melinda Caroline Robertson who had moved to Pickens Co, SC from Laurens Co. Melinda was a 1st cousin to my gg-grandmother, Terrissa Gantt (who married Joseph G. Chappell). Mary Jane Robertson Bowie's father, William C. Robertson, was living close to Joseph and Terrissa Gantt Chappell in the 1860 Pickens Co census. Another odd coincidence is the fact that George F. Bowie, JR and Erskine Calhoun Bowie were living on Isaac Anderson's land. Harriett Nimmons Bowie's mother was Hester Anderson who was the daughter of Isaac Anderson. The name of Anderson has been passed down in the Chappell family. James/John Chappell and Abigail Boren named a son, Anderson W. Chappell. My g-grandparents, William Martin 'Fiddler Bill' Chappell and Eveline Patterson named a son, Arthur Anderson Chappell. So, that got me to wondering if I have an Anderson connection possibly through the Chappell or Boren line. I have not located parents for James Chappell nor Abigail Boren nor any siblings for either. I have a couple of possibilities for siblings on both of them. A James Boren married a Delilah Chappell-around the same dates and locations. George F. Bowie, JR, in an interview with Leon Anders and Sarah Hunt (when he was 94!!) told them that the Chappell's came from Newberry. His maw had told him so. He said 'Uncle' Jimmy Chappell came in and married, but he did not know who he married. He also said that you could not find the grave then probably as he was having some work done around there. So, possibly the Boren line may have an Anderson connection and that could be why James Chappell is buried there. 3. Thanks for sending the info on the BOREN family, and yes, they tend to become BOWENs. There is still a doctor in the area who is a BOREN though so not everyone of them left Pickens Co., SC. Did I send you the info on the BORENs fr. the 1800 Enhanced Census of Pendleton Dist., SC?? It may be helpful. Let me know abt this, and I'll send you a report of whatever I have. I'm leaving tomorrow to go to Easley where my dad lives to take him back to his cancer dr. on Wed., and will be back the end of the week. Abigail Boren Chappell is one of my major brickwalls (and I have a few of them!!!!!) The Boren's had a tendency to change their name to Bowen. I have some court documents that Marilyn Boren sent me on some Boren's in Pickens Co from the mid to late 1800's. Her husband's ancestor is another Boren that we cannot place, Sarah Boren (abt 1812, SC-abt 1870, Pickens Co, SC) She never married but had three daughters. She is closely allied with Powell Riggins and he actually left her more money in his will than his own children. So, we have 3 Boren's that we cannot place-Abigail (Jul 1812, SC-aft 1900, Pickens Co, SC), James (abt 1803, SC-bef 1870, Pickens Co, SC), and the above Sarah. I somehow think they are siblings as Abigail and James both married Chappell's. James and Delilah Chappell Boren were the grandparents of the Rev. William Clingman Boren. These families are in court documents together and their families intermarried. 3. Hi Dave, I am also related to the SC Gillespie family via Prudence Gillespie, who married William Dobson (4 Nov 1900) in Pickens County. They were married by the Magistrate B.D. Garvin, who married pretty much everyone around that time! :-) William was the son of my Great Grandfather, the Rev. James Dobson, who according to the Pickens Sentinel, married H.N. Manley and Ida Rogers at the home of Mansel Gillespie (all of Pickens.) One big happy family back then! 1. [SCPICKENS] Robertson, Bowie, Chappell, Anderson
    2. Hi! Chappell. James and Abigail's son, John Wesley Chappell named a son, James Anderson Chappell. Their daughter, Nancy Abigail Chappell Smith named a son, James Anderson Smith. If anyone has any information on any of these families or know of anything about them, please contact me. Thanks!!!!!!!!!! Patricia A. 3. Dear List Members, If you were effected by the Comcast buy out, then you need to read this, if not delete it. Just this evening, I have receive over 100 requests for me to change e-mail address to a Comcast address. Many of these requests mention multiple lists of which the sender needs their e-mail address changed. It will take me a good week or so to get through them all. You will receive an e-mail from which you can unsubscribe. If you can't do this, then you will just need to re-subscribe with your new address and let the old one bounce off. To re-subscribe this go to John Fuller's mailing list site http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html or remember you can subscribe and or unsubscribe by sending only the word UNSUBSCRIBE or SUBSCRIBE to XXXXXX-L-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM or XXXXXX-D-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM if you are on the Digest List. 1. [SCPICKENS] Drummonds of Pendleton Dist
    2. Glen
    3. Hello, I am trying to find out more about my ggggg-grandfather and possibly discover some of his siblings and parents. He was Henry Drummond and I think he and his family came to SC around 1800. I found him on the 1820 Pendleton census (M33, roll #120, page 198). This is what I know: HENRY DRUMMOND was born Abt. 1795 in Ireland, and died November 10, 1873 in Polk Co., Ga. He married SARAH CANADY Bet. 1815 - 1818 in South Carolina. She was born Abt. 1798 in South Carolina, and died Aft. 1860 in Georgia. Notes for SARAH CANADY: Last name may be either Canady or Canada. More About HENRY DRUMMOND and SARAH CANADY: Marriage: Bet. 1815 - 1818, (Pendleton) South Carolina Children of HENRY DRUMMOND and SARAH CANADY are: i. JOSEPH BERRY DRUMMOND, b. Abt. 1820, Pendleton, South Carolina; d. Aft. 1880, Polk, Georgia. Joseph married Cassie Elenor Melton, daughter of David Melton who is also on the 1820 census. If anyone has info about Drummonds, Meltons or Canadas/Canadys please let me know. Thanks, Glen http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/d/r/u/Glen-D-Drummond- jr/index.html

    1. [SCPICKENS] Memorial Day - Lonely Graves
    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. For those of you who are visiting the cemeteries and graves of your loved ones, your ancestors this weekend and have a few extra flowers, think of placing them on one of the lonely graves which are never visited. Or, if you are living in an area where you have no one, think of visiting a cemetery and placing flowers by one of these lonely graves. I live in Logan Utah and tomorrow I will be visiting several local cemeteries and will be placing flowers on graves. Over the past years I have adopted these graves, these people and I hope that someone out there is doing the same for my loved ones. This is the day to remember those who came before us, who forged the paths that we now walk. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
