    1. [SCPICKENS] Elizabeth MAYFIELD MILLER
    2. Dolores Miller Pringle
    3. My 5th Great G'mother was Elizabeth MAYFIELD bef. her marriage to Isaac MILLER, Sr. According to info she gave on the 1850 SC Pickens Dist., Census, she was born c1767 in NC. At that time, parts of SC were considered to be in NC, so it's really a guess as to whether she was born in what is now Pickens Co., SC, or over the line somewhere in present-day NC. Elizabeth was called Elizabeth in her husband's will, and he died 28 Jan 1846. Isaac MILLER, Sr. was a son of George MILLER and his wf. Mary who settled in Old Pendleton Dist., SC (in the part that is now Pickens Co., SC). George MILLER settled in this area when it was still Indian land. I have been told by elderly historians in the county that he was most likely the first white man to live there. Elizabeth MAYFIELD MILLER died abt 1855. I have searched in many places and gotten no where with her; she is a definite brick wall. I have also been told that she was Indian - was she??? I've tried looking among the Indian info on the internet and mailing lists and had absolutely not one reply nor found one piece of info. There were many MAYFIELDs in Old Pendleton Dist., some of whom lived near the MILLERS. Was Elizabeth a dau of one of them? All of Elizabeth and Isaac's children were named "MILLER family names" except for the following: William J.and Isabella. The other names, which are well-used MILLER names, are Barbara, Esther, Mary , Isaac, III, George, Jesse. Elizabeth has me intrigued, but I'm at a point where I would really like to be able to place her with her parents. Thanks for reading and thank you for any help! God bless, Dolores Miller Pringle

    3. Thank you for asking. What I am hoping to find are her parents. I have loads on her marriage, her children, and her life, but I cannot find her parents, and I'm sure they are out there somewhere. I think that Joel JONES could have been her uncle, and they lived in the same area - so it's a very real possibility. Thanks! 2. Dolores, I know we are working on the same family. I do have Marchbanks in this family and I do have 2 Rebecca Jones and 2 Rachel Jones and a few Marchbanks. Maybe you have some info I don't have I have I have you don't have. Please email me directly so we can compare and bring our minds together. Michelle Delores, I called my friend and she does not know of any Jones who married a Marchbanks. Neither did she know of a Rachael Rebecca Jones. 3. Wanted to send this - in the event anyone is interested in this family. Several days or a wk. ago, I posted the children of Joel R. JONES and his wf., Jane MCELREATH. This couple raised and left a large family in northern Pickens Co., SC. Here are the directions to this cemetery (Joel and Jane are buried here as well as quite a few of their children); my aunt and I went to it on Saturday: Leave Easley, SC, on Hwy. 135 and head north. Go past the Hwy. 186 turn that goes to Dacusville. Soon after you pass the new Mt. Tabor Church on the right, you will come to Dalton Rd. Turn right on Dalton Road, and then take a left on Hamilton Road. About 1/4 mi.+-, there is an old road bed on the left which is blocked off by a white pipe and cable. The road is also posted "No Trespassing." {We knew that the JONES still owned the land so we went on as my aunt was a JONES.} When you walk abt 1/8-1/4 mi. down the road bed, you will walk into a beautiful old clearing fenced in by a relatively new chain link fence, and the cemetery is there. From pictures that are abt 125 yrs. old, the cemetery still looks pretty much the same - a little more moss, a couple of large trees inside the fence, and of course, the stones look older, but it's a lovely serene spot which is a compliment to the family members that have taken care of the cemetery. It is my understanding that there is another JONES cemetery somewhere in Pickens Co., but this is the one that is in Vol. 1 of the Pickens Co. Cemetery books on p. 68. All the graves are still marked as well as quite a few that are not marked, but maybe have stones only. I hope this will help someone who needs the info. Oh, yes, there are several trees down on the road bed which you would need to climb over to get there, but I hope that's all the better to keep the vandals out! God bless, Dolores

    3. This message is for SCPICKEN-L@rootsweb viewers. Please let me know if it is just my mail site; or, if you are receiving a great number (approx 200 daily) obscene messages. I know I can just delete - but, it's unbeliavble the number of messages I go through to find ONE legitimate. I've tried blocking; but, I've blocked more than "block" can hold. They just change addresses and continue sending 6 - 7 from one group.....Please let me know if you have any solution. Thanks and sorry to bother you if you are not experiencing the problem. My reason for posting here is that this site I use exclusively for Ancestry research and feel they may have invaded our site for names/addresses. Thank you. 2. Could your question refer to Capt. JONES? I looked at the CPT abbreviation, and the only thing I would figure was Captain. If so, that was Capt. William Manning "Manning" JONES, a son of Joel R. JONES and wf. Jane MCELREATH. He is buried at the JONES Cemetery also. Does this help? Dolores

    1. Re: [SCPICKENS] JONES at Peters Creek Church, Pickens Co., SC
    2. I had wondered about this Joel of yours as the first Joel is also listed as Joel R. JONES, but the JONES book doesn't show him as a son. He may be a nephew or g'son, acc. to the dates. If he married Vashti ROPER, he may be buried at Oolenoy as many of the EDENS and ROPERS are buried there. Found Rev. "Tyer" ROPER, b. 25 Aug 1809, d. 27 Apr 1877 and Melinda ROPER, no info readable on her marker, at Oolenoy. If you Vashti was their child she would have been born sometime c1830 or later. This would definitely mean that your Joel R. JONES was a later generation that the Joel buried at JONES Cemetery who died 13 Aug 1876, aged 85 yrs., 11 months, 12 days. I know this doesn't really help you much, but I may be able to help you a bit more once I get back to Myrtle Beach and my Oolenoy area books, etc. I'll be glad to try. God bless, Dolores.
