    3. Posted on: Pickens County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/SC/Pickens/10783 Surname: SWAN, LEDGERWOOD ------------------------- I am seeking information about a gentleman named VERNE SWAN, born about 1893, married to "Jim," possibly had a sister or cousin named Harriet Swan who married a LEDGERWOOD. I have heard there is a possible descendant in Easley of PICKENS County named Verne Swan, but do not know the relationship. Would appreciate any assistance in getting in touch with the descendant or hearing from anyone who knows of this family. An ancestor's letter suggests this family is connected to my family history by friendship or kinship ties.

    3. Delores, You mentioned that you buy everything you can get your hands on about Pickens County. I assume you own a copy of Pickens County Heritage South Carolina 1995. On page 151 is my Mother's genealogy (Annie Mae Beasley Smith) followed by my Father's which continues onto page 152 (George Davis Smith). I was cramming all the info I could get in so it's mostly names, dates and places and was divided in order to get in all I could!! 3. Hi Dolores, Yes , I had just received this information from Sandy...However I thank you so much for thinking of me when you were researching... I did see one thing that was different. David had been married 3 times...I thought the census said 2 times, however Iam sure it is allot clearer when you read the film ... Would it be too much trouble to recheck your cemetery book for me? The info you sent a couple months ago, that Davie B. Finney died on October 5, 1923, buried New Kings Grove Church. Cemetery. Some info that I received said he died in 1913...This person did not have complete dates or much other info... If he died in 1913 than her would not be in the 1920 Census... I know that his wife remarried, maybe twice, once to a Ben Culbertson & maybe to a Mr. Simmons. Many Thanks again for your help, Patricia ----- Original Message ----- From: "DMPringle" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, June 02, 2001 11:19 PM Subject: Re: [SCPICKENS] DAVID BRANCH FINNEY > Well, this must be our lucky night, but I thought I would take a minute and > look at the 1910 census to see if David B. 3. Have you joined the Chastain list? They my very well be able to help you. I was able to find my Chastain line back into the 1500s as a result of joining the association. 3. I don't believe it shows an old school, but I will check again. I don't know that the map can be bought alone. I seem to have it in a couple of different books that I have. (You have to keep in mind that I buy anything I can get my hands on about Pickens Co.!!!). We're going out of town for a couple of days but I can find the best size for the scanner and send it to those who want it. It may not be of much help, but it does tell who owned each building. A couple of books have printed it very small, but some have it about page size, and it reads much better. I'll let you know as soon as I get back! Godspeed... 2. DMPringle
    3. Well, this must be our lucky night, but I thought I would take a minute and look at the 1910 census to see if David B. FINNEY might show up! Would you believe he's on the 2nd page I looked at???? I don't think I ever found anyone so fast. I hope that you don't have this, Pat, and that it will help you. I know you're desperate to find something on him. He is listed in Pickens Township, Part A(?), taken by James H. McDANIEL, on the 15th of _____(left blank) in 1910. House 19 Family 19 (Column names)Name, Relationship,Sex, Race, Age, Marital status, # yrs. married, If female, number of childbirths, number of living children, POB, POB of person's father, POB of person's mother, native language, occupation 1)Finney, David B. SC, no occupation Pat, the last few columns were about education, etc., and didn't seem to have any actualy info that would have helped you do any more research. I hope the above makes sense. There was a lot of info there. The birth place for the daughter Emma was almost illegible, but since they were all states, it appears that it may be Arkansas; don't know for certain. I will be gone from Sunday through Tues. If you have questions, I'll be glad to try to answer them then. I do hope you don't already have this and that it will help! There are no other FINNEY households nearby. If you need anything, don't hesitate to write. Godspeed... Dolores Miller Pringle

    1. [SCPICKENS] Map of Old Pickens
    2. DMPringle
    3. The map really only shows the town with the street layouts and the buildings and a code that tells who the buildings belongs to. I don't think it shows anything beyond just the town. I will look and see if I see anything else. I have another map that may show him, and I will pull it out and look at it for you. That one may have him. I am going out of town tomorrow and will be back Tuesday AM. If you don't hear from me, please write and tell me what I was going to do for you! I get a bit "senile" from time to time!!! It does seem that I've read something on an Andrew WILSON, but it may be bec. I have a WILLSON line, and I'm just confused! Godspeed... Dolores M. 3. thanks Dolores.. I'll try to find a copy and read up on the area. Daddy was born here but they moved alot.. tried to do some research this morning but the 30 mins allowed goes pretty quick when someone is waiting to use the one and only fiche machine... Sandy -----Original Message----- From: DMPringle <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Saturday, June 02, 2001 12:00 PM Subject: Re: [SCPICKENS] DAVID BRANCH FINNEY Old Pickens was near the Nuclear Station; it was a very well planned little town, but they decided to move it to the present site (I have the date somewhere but can't put my hands on it.). The Old Pickens Presbyterian Church is all that is left of Old Pickens. Old Pickens Church is on Hwy.183 bef. you get to the Station. I do have a map of the town itself. This was when Pickens Dist. included Oconee and Pickens (present-day) Counties, and Old Pickens was intended to be the seat. If you have read the book, "Keowee," it tells all about Keowee Valley as it was before the time of the lakes. It also tells about Old Pickens. Sorry, it's not the "Keowee" book but one other on Pickens Co. Old Pickens was moved in 1868. By the way, if you haven't read "Keowee" - you're missing a treat, esp. if you had valley in the area of Keowee. Pickensville is just down the road fr. the big Wal-Mart in Easley. That was, I believe, the seat for the old Washinton Dist. which included Greenville as well. Pickensville is now just a developing part of Easley. It's in the area of the current West End Elementary School, well, at the forks bef. you get down to the school. Most old Easley folks still refer to that area as Pickensville. I hope this helps someone! Godspeed... Dolores M. 3. Old Pickens was near the Nuclear Station; it was a very well planned little town, but they decided to move it to the present site (I have the date somewhere but can't put my hands on it.). Godspeed... Dolores M.
