Posted on: Pickens County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/SC/Pickens/10795 Surname: NIX ------------------------- Claudia; I am also researching your William Nix b 5 April 1832 in Pickens County South Carolina. He is the son of Jennings Nix and Lucinda (Letty) Alexander. The entire family moved to Blount County, Alabama in 1850-52. William married Nancy Elizabeth Littleton shortly before they departed for Alabama, and apparently she got homesick. By the 1860 Census they were again living in Pickens next door to her parents, with their new daughter Nancy E. Nix age 6, b10 Sep 1854 in Alabama. I am doing research on the descendants of Jennings Nix, and will share any information I have with you.
Some time ago someone on the list sent me a picture of an old building with two front doors on it and a gabled roof. It was probably about a year ago when the person sent the picture with an email. The building was old and in pretty bad shape, but the person wanted to identify the picture. I showed it to an aunt and she was pretty sure it was the old Oolenoy School. I have since found a picture of the school and feel almost positive that this person's picture was definitely Oolenoy School in the Oolenoy section of Pickens County. If that person is still on the list and will write me, I will send you the other picture and the info I have found about the school. Thank you! Godspeed... Dolores Miller Pringle

Dolores has it and she'll be out for a few days. Said she'd send it out when she got home. I agree.. I don't know who Ms. Proctor is but Traci has been the nicest coordinator I've "met" so far.. I'd like to vote for Traci if we're able.. I think that it was a mean and nasty thing to do. Traci has done an outstanding job as the county coordinator for these two counties. She has spent countless hours and money to make the pages as informative as possible. She also has enlisted the aid of many researchers to do transcriptions for the site. Most of the materials to be transcribed were purchased with her own money. She also made trips to SC to scan materials and photograph headstones. The banners were put in place for a reason: to preserve the cemeteries. I would think that you would commend her for trying to protect the cemeteries of our families. My roots run deep in Pickens County, SC and the surrounding areas. I am also beginning research into Newberry County, SC. You blatantly disregarded all rules of etiquette by not informing Traci of your decision to remove her as county coordinator. To go behind her back and contact rootsweb in order to gain these sites is an unforgivable sin. Personally, I think YOU should be removed as state coordinator. Everyone who has contributed to the site is going to be very angry about this. I know I am. I am a contributor to the site and also do transcriptions for the site. Anything that has my name on it WILL NOT be allowed on your site. I sent materials to Traci to be put on the site for the express reason of helping to make Pickens County the best site on the web. Under Traci's coordinatorship, it was beginning to be the best. Now, you have undone all that good work that Traci and all the others have done. I, for one, will not be accessing either one of the county websites. I will also advise everyone that I know that does research in these two counties not to either. Also, I will be contacting the USGenweb to remove any of my information that may stray onto your site. If it does show up on there, I will seek legal action. I have recieved several messages regarding the possiblility of posting the maps that have been offered to us by [email protected] regarding Pickens County to a site. I contacted this member asking about it also mentioning a concern about copyright laws. [email protected] also has a concern regarding copyright and it has been decided that if you want a copy of these maps, she will send them to you individually on a per request basis. We wish there were an easier way, but in this situation, there simply is not. So....if you would like a copy of the map offered by [email protected] please contact her personally and ask for one. Please try not to post your request across the list. Kathleen Burnett List Mom

Bonnie, Where did you find the deed references? I've been trying to find any deeds on my ancestors in the area...to no avail. My ancestors Andrew CADDEL Sr. (my gggg grandfather, b. ca 1732, Scotland) and William CADDEL (my ggg grandfather, b. ca 1780s in Person Co., NC) were in Pendleton Dist., SC from about 1800 to abt 1820, in the area that became Pickens County and now Oconee County. William also had older brothers - John Calvin CADDEL and Andrew CADDEL Jr. I've found no records other than 1810 census of Pendleton on them in the area. They lived along Coneross Creek near Burchfield's Bridge (Mill's Atlas of 1825) in the area part of the present Lake Keeowee (or another lake?) and near the present Seneca, SC, now under water I understand. Any ideas?
