I do believe Sally could be a nick for Sarah, but also I believe for Salome. Not as sure about this one. Gail, <G> This is the basement I have been telling everyone about... I have the index to those file cabinets... I bet the other one got lost or misplaced (there was one at the court house) I think we have it covered securing those records so they do not get thrown away or misplaced. When I get there thats one of the projects that is priority.... Course, ya'll know we will be needing some help.... <hehe> Hugs, Traci In a message dated 6/23/01 6:02:00 PM Central Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: > Traci, > Reading your post about scanning indexes brought to mind - When I was in > the Pickens County Courthouse a few weeks ago, I was looking for a legal > record on Joshua Cox. Traci, Reading your post about scanning indexes brought to mind - When I was in the Pickens County Courthouse a few weeks ago, I was looking for a legal record on Joshua Cox. A woman took me downstairs where the old records are kept. They were in file cabinets in an area which appeared to be a parking garage. They called it the basement. She told me that a prisoner had put the records in some order, but many weren't arranged at all. I looked through eight drawers to find what I was searching for. This would be a great project for the historical society or someone interested in preserving these documents. They badly need an index. It would be a shame for these records to be neglected much longer. I live several hundred miles away, or I would take on this project. Just a suggestion..............Gail
Bonnie, Thank you for your support :) Rootsweb is not the ones you need to be mad at though, they will give out accounts to any one. The web site is NOT gone, it is STILL up at two locations now, the old rootsweb and also the new site which will cover ALL of the state of SC, and ALL counties. The Pickens and Newberry are up and we are assigning coordinators for the other counties. If anyone has an interest in helping with this NON PROFIT group effort just contact me via [email protected] ALL the work is there and ALL transcribers and volunteers are still working hard to have ALL the census up by Christmas :) I have delayed my trip this week to take care of the stupid boards that have been totally messed up as of last night. (thats a WHOLE 'nuther issue though...and I'm getting it solved) Pickens Web Address: http://www.scgenealogy.com/pickens/ Newberry Web Address: http://www.scgenealogy.com/newberry/ Keep ya'lls heads up 'cuz SCGenealogy.com is on its way, FREE to ALL researchers, like before, just bigger and better!!!! You have my word on it! Say a prayer for me, Im trying to learn CGI Scripts tonight and I do not have a clue LOL.... Hello fellow SC researchers, This really bothers me, per RootsWeb Review, Vol. 4, No. 25 Dated: 6/20/01 NEW WEB SITES. Some of these might not yet be accessible. If one that interests you isn't up yet, please check again in a few days or a week. http://www.rootsweb.com/~[account name]. Note that the ~[tilde] before the account name is required. FOR EXAMPLE, to visit the Web page for Roanoke County, Virginia, go to http://www.rootsweb.com/~varoanok/ scpicke2 -- Pickens County, South Carolina scnewbe2 -- Newberry County, South Carolina Traci, I am on the Pickens and Newberry lists and have been rather concerned about the new sites, particularly because you've done an awesome job on the old ones. It appears that the Pickens one is now working, but the Newberry one isn't. The Pickens list has been aware of the problems concerning your rather innocuous efforts to raise funds for headstones with a little click box at the web site. I think the Newberry folks should have a little background and be allowed to voice their opinions, too. The whole situation just stinks. But when I saw that RootsWeb is actually creating new websites, it made me mad. Most sincerely, Bonnie Butler
Howdy all from the message board administrator: The new message boards are up... BE SURE AND CAREFULLY READ THE RULES FOR POSTING BEFORE YOU POST ON THEM. Now, Alice, I can't resist this, but I don't remember what George called Martha! I must be having a senior moment! I do know that my husband's G-G'mother was Mary Martha CHANDLER MAYES, and she was called "Patty" her entire life, according to my late father-in-law, as a nickname for Martha. Sorry abt. the little joke, but it just came out! Godspeed... Dolores Miller Pringle - Students have called me many things, and lots of those names (Mrs. Twinkle, for the entire school year, was one of the best!) were not anything to repeat to anyone!!! Of course, I get DORIS, GLORIA, etc. all the time! I just wish my parents had been a bit smarter and given me a nice old family name for my first name; then I could just deal with 'PRINGLE"! ----- Original Message ----- From: Alice Hills <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, June 18, 2001 4:30 PM Subject: [SCPICKENS] Martha "Patsy" > Didn't George Washington call Martha "Patsy"? > > Alice Hills > > > ==== SCPICKEN Mailing List ==== > Checkout the other lists being watched over by your List Mom; > http://mailing_lists.homestead.com/lists.html > To learn more about my world visit http://dwp.bigplanet.com/kburnett >
