I've been offline for a while due to a failed modem, but after reading through 1400+ emails, it has occurred to me that I never personally signed my name to or gave any permission for anything I ever posted to become the property of anyone else. I know that it's stealing if you take my car, and I didn't give you permission, no matter the fine print you wrote. Folks, my genealogy work is many years in the making and means much more to me than any fine car on the road! I know all about that "fine print" stuff, but I just would be willing to believe that any court would rule genealogy research would be considered part of the right to privacy, and also, freedom of speech dictates. AND that the research belongs to the researcher, which means US and not Rootsweb. No one ever posted work there with the purpose of publishing or giving it to anyone, but to find assistance with his/her research. I'm certainly not a lawyer, but I've had a few law courses, and it seems to me that they are the ones with infringement problems. Am I off the beam with this...just in fantasyland, or what? Not that I intend to even think about a court battle, but someone out there may just lob a class action suit at them and give them pause for some serious thinking on their part! Besides that, I mostly only posted years ago, and I hope it was all wrong!!! Wouldn't that be delightful??? That's a lovely thought right now anyway! I know this is off-topic, but all these other responses have made me think about this, and I think that our property is being stolen and "fine print" or not, they are the pilferers!!! I do hope they will reconsider and rectify this situation; it is shameful on their part. Godspeed to all, and thanks for being such enjoyable folks to "be around." Dolores M. Pringle
Do you have any information about Henry Lark? I am a descendent of Julius Pringle Lark(1852 - 1921) . My grandfather told me that Julius's father was Henry. Could this be the same person?

Just a note of interest: The LDS Church does not loan out there books. You might want to check and see if they have by chance put the brand records on film. Thank You to everyone that answer my message on"Brands". Now I know why I want to come to SC for a visit............Living out of state sure makes it hard to find information....if anyone one has the deed books for Pickens Co. or Old Pendleton District, will you please keep a eye out for a "Brand" listed for Charles PITTS b.abt. 1796 or Elijah Andrew PITTS b. 1824,both were born in Pickens and still living there in the 1860. Again THANK YOU for answering my message. Shirley (Pitts) Bennett
Robert, I got the census today and I loved them. Well from what everyone said about the brand being in the Deed books I guess we would have to go to SC unless you can order the Deed books from LDS....Just our luck.....LOL......I sure wish I could see the deed books to see if Charles Sr. gave land to his sons (Charles , Joel , Willams) I am starting to believe that the older William was also a brother. Maybe we can ask someone if they would do a look-up for us.). I can see I am going to have to go back to LDS and see if I can get some deeds. I found a Pitts that is kin to me by way of the Pitts/ Blankenship / Woodham. She said that her father and I are first couzn........I had hear of her grandmother but not her father or her.But she said that she would be busy until after July 22. So I guess I will have to wait to see if she has anything new to add.Maybe my prayers will be answer......(Smile)....Again thank you for sending the census. I don't know about ALL of SC, but in Edgefield Co. brands and marks are entered into the deed books, but not indexed. That is one of the advantages of transcribed records - everything entered into the deed book is transcribed and indexed. Wilma Kirkland

Hi List, Hope all are having a beautiful day like we are here in Pickens Co. this morning.. gonna be a scorcher though. I recently tried OE5-didn't like it and am now back to my old version.. that's great-however my problem is this. I did not back up my folders!! yes, it's true--slap me silly! (no , not really, just an expression.. ) Unfortunately, alot of things that I've gotten in the last 6 mths are now lost.. My guru hubby can't find them. I'd gotten some sites for marriages and such for the 1800's, I'd talked to some other MARTIN (William w.'s) researchers and it's all gone.. Big Sigh!! so, my favor is this.. If anyone has communicated with me and might still have some of this info-would you resend it to me? I promise that I'll get it backed up as well as hard copies printed... I'm researching WILLIAM WADDELL MARTIN / SARAH ELIZABETH MILLS SAMUEL JESSIE JONES / REBECCA DALRYMPLE any help is really appreciated.. and if we've chatted about anything-let me know because I've also lost my email list as well... Thanks loads... Sandy in SC...
