Kimberley, The Sunset community has never been listed separately in the phone directories. I'm almost certain of this. The only towns listed are Easley, Pickens, Liberty, Norris, Central, Clemson, Six Mile. The folks in the Sunset community are usually listed, if in Pickens Co., under Pickens, SC, which is the closest town. Some few of them might possibly be listed under Six Mile, SC. You might want to keep this in mind. If anyone has the telephone directories for the 60s, it might be the Pickens Co. Library in Easley or, possibly, Clemson University Library. Most phone books at that time were not for the entire county, but Easley, Pickens, & Liberty have always been in the same book, I believe. Now, they pretty much list the whole county. Pretty positive this is correct. I had to think back to the 60s which was "high school" for me, but we all had friends in Pickens & Liberty bec. Easley was so small then! It's a good thing I don't have to try to remember any farther back! Hope this is helpful! Godspeed... I am researching info on Richard (Dick) Gassaway b Dec 6, 1868 d July 4, 1951 md Nettie Nickles b Jan 25, 1876 d May 11, 1959. Children were Clayton, Stella, Pallie, Lou, Cora, Ollie, Sally, Maggie and Edward. Thanks for any info Wyatt Tinsley
Elias's father appears to be James Mason. Elias had a brother James Mason. Both James and Elias were born between 1820 and 1830. See 1830 population census of Pickens District SC. James appears to be the only family with male children this age! Elias and his brother James both served in Company K, 22nd South Carolina Vol's in the Uncivil War. Elias Married Martha Hyde daughter of Bennett Hyde. Martha died during the war and Elias then married S. J. (McDonald) Myers. Daughter of Jacob McDonald, widow of William Henry Myers.

Thank you Rachel for the information. I have since learned that these are communities in the Pickens County area of SC. If someone knows if they had them back then and knows where I need to go to look up the information that I am inquiring on, please reply to this message. Thank you and may God bless you, Kimberly
to my knowledge there has never been counties called Sunset or Eastatoe in South Carolina. (I may be wrong) There is a community called Sunset on Hwy 11 in northern Pickens county. I think there is still a post office there. Hope this helps.
I checked the three volumes of cemetery books on Pickens Co. and find no one who would be your Thomas AIKEN. There is a W. T. AIKEN and one Thomas AIKEN. The Thomas AIKEN is only about 14 yrs. old and is the son of Myra E. AIKEN who died in 1975. I did not see anything that looked like any of the wives' names. If you could give some idea of a date/s that would help. Godspeed... Dolores M. I am trying to locate the burial location for Thomas Aiken who was married (or at least had children by) 1) Rebecca Hoxit Galloway; 2) Ellen Reece; 3) Ella Rice. I believe he was buried in Pickens county, though it appears that he travelled back and forth between Pickens county, and Henderson county, NC.
all my life i have been told a story of GIBBS hole ( not sure if it was first name or last ). GIBBS hole is a wonderful fishing spot on the pickens county side of the saluda river near old hunts bridge road (on the property of my grandparents. )GIBBS and another man was making moonshine when the law showed up. one person was killed and buried under a tree. ( unsure if it was GIBBS partner or a law man ) GIBBS escaped and jumped into the saluda river from a rocky point and was never seen again. he is thought to have been washed under the bank in the turn of the river and drowned. anyone who knows the full extent of this story please tell me the details ! i have grown up hearing this story and all the people who knew names and details are all passed away. anyone kin to GIBBS or the other person who was killed contact me and i can show you were the grave is and where GIBBS jumped off into the river.

Whoops! Forgot to mention that my husband is also descended from Robert Stewart III, daughter Catherine who was the eldest sibling. The first lineage follows Robert I, Robert II, Catherine Stewart Lewis. The other relation is through Robert , Abraham, Ary Emilissa Stewart Price. This is confusing to me because they are but "names on a paper". Pleased to see these folks taking on personalities through their letter writing, etc. posted at this site. Linda W. Hi I do not have a file to send, wish I did.I have gathered information for a couple of years. My Stewart line goes back to Robert Stewart b.1749 m.Nancy Holloway Robert Stewart b.1785 m.Elizabeth Burroughs Robert Stewart b.1815 m.Elizabeth Durham .Daniel Carter Stewart b.1842 m.Sarah Elizabeth Susannah Holcombe? Stewart The letters that I have belonged to my ggrandfather Daniel Carter Stewart, passed on to his son Marcus Daniel Stewart, then to my father,Prue Lee Stewart, then to me. I have a connection to the Martin line in Anderson co.SC. thru Sarah Elizabeth "Lizzie"Martin b.1834 m.Henry Burris Brookshire,my ggrandfather on my maternal side. How is your husband related to W.W.Martin,guess I am trying to connect him to the Stewart line. Thanks for any help Gay
Hi Dick I hope you don't mind my sharing this on the Pickens co.Sc list, someone may have information to add. Thanks Gay subj: Re: W. W. Martin Date: 07/30/2001 6:17:34 PM Eastern Daylight Time From: DISMARTIN To: GBeam Gay Dick Martin here. My great grandfather was William Waddell Martin. You have joined the large group of researchers who are looking for information on William. My line goes through William to Warren Columbus Martin (m. Cora Richey, one of four wives), through James Richard Martin, Sr. to me, James Richard Jr. I have some information on the Martin line but nothing of William or Sarah's ancestors, only decendents. If you are interested I will send you what I have. What is your relationship to William? Talk to you later. Dick Martin [email protected] Hi Dick, I have an old letter with the letterhead office of J.M.Stewart. clerk court common pleas. Pickens C.H.S.C. Oct 25th 1894 S.E.S.Stewart ( this is my ggrandmother,Sarah Elizabeth Susannah Stewart, who I think was a Holcombe?? before marriage) the letter goes: Dear Daughter I write you a few lines which leaves us in common health at this time.I was sorry to hear that you was sick.and in such circumstances the (unreadable) is in common health so far as I know. I will send you six dollars-to help you get back.I shall want it the first of January next if you can arrange to pay me-I have to raise money by that time-and everything is very low here-and money scarce-some of us will try and meet you at Liberty if you will let us know when you arrive. your Father W.W.Martin I have a second letter that I only have half of the sheet, but it is dated C.H.S.C.dated Nov 30th 1893 appears to be to son and daughter , What I can make out, mentions the name McBruce apparently this was to inform them of a judgement that some one holds, and something being done before W.W.Martin found it out. signed hoping to hear from you W.W.Martin I do not know if W.W.Martin was related to Daniel Carter Stewart and his wife Sarah Elizabeth Susannah Holcombe?Stewart or simply addressed them as son and daughter. They were born about 1842,I think I read somewhere that W.W.Martin was born about 1829? I have another old letter in which it appears that Sarah Elizabeth Susannah was stating that Samuel Holcombe was her father. I believe that Sarah Elizabeth Susannah Stewart may have been a schoolteacher at one time and wondered if she had any connection to a school on Martin School rd.off Mile creek rd.(where Daniel Carter and Susannah Stewart once lived and are buried in a family plot there.) Please send me anything that you can share with me on this Martin line Thanks for any help Gay

Not an accomplished reasearcher in those lines. Just basics.
