Here in Christchurch (NZ) we can look up the indexes of Scottish briths deaths and marriages at the LDS family history centre. Then the full record for the years 1855-1875 also 1881 and 1891 can be ordered in on microfilm at a small cost. If it's outside those years you have to get it from the official records office in Scotland which costs more - but there are probably people local to you who order them in bulk at less cost than you ordering a single certificate. I believe you can also do this all on line at the web site of the Scottish Records Office. To search costs 6 pounds payable by credit card, but you can get a lot of searches (30 pages of results) for this cost. Then you can order the certificate for an additional cost.
