Thanks to all who replied to my query on Lithuanian miners. it seems that the names are indeed Lithuanian. I will just have to find out why they came to Scotland via Poland. Since both countries have a tradition of coal mining one would assume that it was work that made them take that route to Scotland . I will try to follow up on any publication dealing with the Lithuanians in Scotland. one last thing. Are records kept in Register House or other archives of people who change their name by deed poll?
