    3. Hi all, I have just joined this list. My interest is in Coal Town, Fordel, Fife, (and the Fordel coal works), where I have a number of people in my family tree who lived in Coaltown, Fordel, and nearby, for at least 3 generations. Described variously as "The Coll Toun", "The Coal Town of Fordel Moor" in baptismal records. Nothing remains of this village today , I believe. Anyone with interests in this village I'd be pleased to make contact. Dalgety parish section of the "New Statistical Account of Scotland. Part X- Fife (1830's)" indicates 798 people living in " Rows of Collier Houses ". "In 1755, the [whole] population of the parish was stated to be 761. Since that period it has been nearly doubled. The principal cause of its increase is to be attributed to the extension of the Fordel coal-works, and to several small feus, which have been granted by the proprietor on his lands in the neighbourhood of the colliery.
