    3. The postings are great! There have even been some connections made already. Let us know if you find a cousin! Here's a few suggestions: 1. Don't send your posting to me! Send it to SCOTT-L@rootsweb.com so it will be distributed. 2. Don't forget to put both locale and dates (or approximations) in the subject line and the message. There have a lot of George, William, John, etc. Scotts in the world! 3. If you're having trouble changing your email address on the list or getting off the list, then contact me. (To unsubscribe, send a message to SCOTT-L-request@rootsweb.com with just the word UNSUBSCRIBE in the message body or the subject line; To subscribe, send a message to SCOTT-L-request@rootsweb.com with just the word SUBSCRIBE in the message body or the subject line. Both must be sent from the email address of the subscription.) 4. By design, replies are sent directly to the person posting the message, not the list. If you have something that is general interest to SCOTT researchers, add the list's email address to your "To:" in the message header. The exception to this is the Digest version of the list where replies are sent back to the list. IF YOU ARE A DIGEST SUBSCRIBER, be sure to change the subject line when replying, DO NOT include the entire original digest in your reply, and CHANGE the "To" in your header to the original sender's UNLESS your reply is of general interest to all SCOTT researchers. 5. There are about 800 SCOTT researchers worldwide subscribing to this list. While we have had a lot of postings in the past 24 hours, there are still a lot of researchers we haven't heard from. You know who you are! End your silence and let us hear from you! 6. If your email Inbox fills up, additional messages may get "bounced." If your ISP has a limit on the email they are willing to store on their server, you could be unintentionally removed from the list if you are not reading and/or deleting your mail often enough. Depending on list activity and the version of the list you subscribe to (regular or digest) you could get automatically removed from a Rootsweb list in as little as a day. If you haven't gotten any messages from a list, send a subscription request from your email address to the list in question (see No. 3 above). If you're already on the list at that email address, nothing will happen. If you've been removed from the list, you'll be re-established. Caution: If you send the subscribe request from a different email address, you will receive email from the list sent to both email addresses. Be sure of the email address you used when you originally subscribed. (Did you mess up and get subscribed twice to this list? Drop me a note explaining what you think happened and the email addresses in question and I'll try to straighten it out!) David Scott Scott Surname List Administrator
