Hi list I am looking for Richard Scott who had 18 coat of Arms and was connected to Scots Hall in Kent England. Richard Scott, a direct descendant of the Scotts of Scott Hall, coming to America and having in his possession a Pedigree Roll showing 18 different colored shields of the coats of Arms of his ancestors. Below is a copy of some of the information that I have ."Richard Scott who married Mary Whitenall in 15?? Richard Scott the immigrant, has a very interesting background which few historians have studied back to the time of Moses and to the origin of Scotland. Interesting enough the name wasn't even Scott in the beginning. Pierre Bailieul, Lord of Fiscamp of Normandy, France, came into England with William the Conqueror and was the progenitor of John Baliol, the of "Baliol College" in Oxford. John was a Baron of great wealth and influence who had married Deruorgille, a descendant of the Original Scots of Scotland. She was the daughter of Alan-Lord of Galloway and his wife Margaret, who was the eldest daughter of David-Earl of Huntington', whose brother was "William the Lion". Margaret had a brother John who was the Earl of Chester and he was called John Scot. John Scot and his sister Margaret had a family tree which consisted of many great names. Charlemagne, William the Conqueror, Alfred the Great, Romanus I of the Greek Empire, Waldimar the Great of Russia, Henry I Emperor of Germany, Baldwin-First Count of Flanders, Rollo-First Duke of Normandy, King Fergus of Scotland and William the Lion, as well as being descendants of the original Scots of Scotland. The original of Scotland, as given by certain historians, is believed to go back to the time of Moses crossing the Red Sea, and was drowned. Scota had married Niul, a Greek warrior who was son of Fenusa-Forsa King of Athens. Niul was made a General in the Pharaohs army. Scota and Niul had a son Gadelas and they lived in the lands of Capacirunt by the red Sea. Moses and his people camped on Niuls land and while there Niul took his son Gadelas into Moses camp to gain intelligence of Moses plans. On the way there the boy, Gadelas, was bitten by a poisonous snake. Moses cured the boy with is miraculous rod and prophesied that the boys descendants would one day inhabit a large western island on which were no poisonous snakes. In gratitude for saving his sons life, Niul supplied the Israelites with provisions, unknown to his Father-in-law Pharaoh Cingers. Shortly after this the Pharaoh followed Moses into the Red Sea and was drowned. Niul had seized the Kings ships and from them beheld the overthrow of the Pharaohs host into the Red Sea. So Scota and her son Gadelas survived, and 3 generations later her tribe left Egypt and after spending more generations in what is not Portugal, the tribe eventually moved on to what is now Scotland and began populating that country about 192 years after Moses made his prophecy. Later, many of the descendants of this tribe of Scota, attached the name Scotus to their names to denote their nativity. Much later, distinguished persons of this Scotch blood added the suffix 'le Scot" to their Christian names. As did John, son of Alan-"Lord of Galloway" who called himself John le Scot. Now John Scot was the jovial table companion of Charles the Great, but he was also a school master and a very strict one. So strict in fact this his students one dayt tacked him with their penknives and killed him. John Scot had no children. But his grgrandnephew grandson of Margaret William Baliol, added the suffix 'le Scot' to his name in memory of his great uncle John Scot. William Baliol 'le scot' was the youngest brother of King John Baliol who was crowned( on the famous crowning stone at Scone) king of Scotland in 1292. King John was dethroned in 1296 and thrown into prison by King Edward the I, at which time the famous crowing stone of Scone was stolen from its original place and taken and placed under the throne of England in West Minister Abbey in London, where it remains to this day. king John died in prison before the year 1300. King Edward the I was so furious with the Baliol family that he also hung Alexander Baloil, another brother to King John. Following this hanging, William Baliol 'le scot' also feared for his life, so he dropped the name Baliol and assumed the name of William Scot. he then became progenitor of the wealthy English family, the "Scotts of Scott Hall of Kent". 300 years and many generations later we find Richard Scott, a direct descendant of the Scotts of Scott Hall, coming to America and having in his possession a Pedigree Roll showing 18 different colored shields of the Goats of Arms of his ancestors. Richard Scott born in 1607 in the parish of Glemaford in Suffolk Co. England . He came to America in 1634 in the "Griffin". On this same boat came William Hutchinson and his wife Anne ( Marbury) and her sisisteratherine Marbury. ( Anne HhHutchinsonas later banished into the wilderness by Gov. Winthrop for her religious beliefs). They all joined the church of Boston that same year. Sorry for the length of the e-mail but would not want to have some one going to all the hard work of looking up something for me that I already have. Joan Beebe Meddaugh
Hello, Joan. I'm sorry to tell you that this Scott information is a muddle of fact, fiction and myth. It's a DFA, descent from antiquity -- there are many fraudulent such lines "published" in the 1800s and 1900s, and earlier as well. However, the experts say that _NO_ DFA has been documented. (Too bad -- such an interesting family tree!) Two lines generally accepted are Alfred the Great, beginning with Cerdic, d. 534, King of the West Saxons; and Charlemagne, beginning with Rotrou, d. 724, who m. Charles Martel. These are not DFAs. Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., 2004. I can only suggest that you take your own most recent documented Scott ancestor, and work backward, one generation at a time. I have two Scotts who are brick walls. I have no reason to believe they might be connected, but you never know. #1 Thomas Scott married Sarah Mahurin. Sarah was born about 1788. She married Thomas Scott 10/11/1805 in Shelby Co., KY. I have much information on the Mahurins, but nothing else on Thomas Scott. Thomas and Sarah had at least 6 children, James, William, Sanford, Nancy, Arthur, and Thomas. #2 James Scott married Elizabeth Schultz. Nothing else about either one. They had a daughter Malinda, born 2/26/1812 in Kentucky, married Syrenus Emmons 12/30/1832 in Floyd Co. IN, and died 10/27/1888 in Jackson County, IN. I have Emmons information, but again, nothing about James Scott or his wife. Wouldn't it be something to connect this James with #1 above? In the next generation, a daughter of Syrenus and Malinda, Mary, married a Mahurin. I suppose it's not too big a stretch to imagine that #1 and #2 are related., but I have no indication of that at this point. Mary -- No virus found in this outgoing message.
