Shepherd "appears" in the first Grand List of Townshend, Windham , VT, dated 14 Sept 1801. Based on census records, he was born in VT. He owned property with, and is buried next to Woodruff Scott (ca 1786 - 1846). I have not been able to link them to the family of Capt. Waitstill Scott of Cheshire, NH, who was in Townshend in the same era & returned to NH (or any other Scott line). Shepherd was married to Eunice Benson, who I believe to be the daughter of Moses Benson. Eunice's son, Pardon, is listed in Woodruff's will. Woodruff's wife was Hannah, and may have been Eunice's sister. All four are buried in Maple Grove Cem, Townshend. My line of the family remained in the area until my great-grandfather (Shepherd's grandson) moved to Texarkana after losing a leg at the Battle of Cold Harbor (Civil War). -- Mary Celine Scott http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/s/c/o/MARY-C-SCOTT/
