Hello all, My brick wall is John Scott and Elizabeth McGlachlan (or maybe McGlashan) who had a son William Scott baptised in Glasgow on 14 January 1841, the Father John is described as a Marble Polisher. I have plenty of information on William who was educated in Edinburgh, trained as a school teacher and went to Manchester and taught at the Presbyterian Day School and then became a Congregational Minister at Chorlton Road Church in Manchester, went to Ipswich, then to Australia and back to England and died in 1905 in Hornsea, Yorkshire. I do know that William was the only son of the marriage, and the only marriage record I can find which could be his parents is 7 July 1819 in Edinburgh. From William's obituary I know John was an elder of the Presbyterian Church and he was still alive in 1879 living at 19 Arnott Street (no place) which is the address on a letter in my possession written to William. William's son, John Longdin Scott (my Grandfather) named his house in Sydney, Australia "Dirleton" which I feel maybe a clue as to where they came from in Scotland. Can anyone offer any assistance.
