    1. [SCOTT] List Administrator: Nude Photo may be virus
    2. Although I have not been yet able to confirm this, I have seen speculation among listowners that the nude photo attachment some list subscribers have complained about receiving may actually be an email virus. The sender may not sent the message intentionally. If this information is true, this virus seems to be able to mutate the subject content and the attachment name. The version I have seen has the message "> Take a look to the attachment." (note the bad grammar) and an attachment called "Sorry_about_yesterday.DOC.pif" -- there are other versions with a file attachment named "Me_nude.AVI.pif" but in either case you should not download/open these files - even if you know the sender. If you did, you are infected. It is always a good idea to update your antivirus software, but now would be an especially good time. If you receive the a message with a file attached with a double extension like these, they are automatically suspect. You should aways suspect any file sent to you with a DOC, PIF, EXE, COM, BAT, SHS, or VBS file name extension (ending). There are very few reasons for sending files of this type by email. If you do receive a message like the one described, please do the following. 1) DO NOT open/download the attached file. 2) Let me know who the sender is 3) Let me know if the message has a [SCOTT] prefix in the subject line. In theory, no message with an attachment should ever come attached to a Rootsweb-sent message. If it does, it is very important that I know about it so that Rootsweb can be properly informed. As I learn and confirm more about the suspected virus, I'll let you know. David Scott SCOTT Surname List Administrator
