Hello Scotts, I have been lurking on this list for several months. Now I would like to share about my Scott family. This information is from the "Scott Family Record" by Anna R. Edminter, written in 1959. She left no sources for her information other than she wrote they she got it from her Grandfather, Charles B. Scott son of John Scott. My Great, Great-Grandfather--Robert Scott b.10-15-1770 d.6-1-1841 [He would be my ggg-grandfather.] My Great, Great-Grandmother--Elizabeth (Croft)Scott b.10-4-1790 To them was born: 1. Robert Scott b. 3-1-1809 d. 4---1874 2. John Scott (my Great-Grandfather) b.1-16-1812 d. 12-18-1871 [He would be my g-grandfather.] 3. James Scott b.10-13-1813 d.8-30-1890 4. Sabina Scott b.10-1-1815 d.9-20-1906 m.Andrew Brown 5. Polly Scott b.10-31-1817 6. Elizabeth Scott b. 1-4-1820 d. 11-19-1862. m. John Jarrison [I believe this is an error and that Elizabeth married John Morrison.] 7. Catherine Scott b. 3-4-1822 d. 4-26-1892 never married 8. Cyrus Scott b. 8-8-1824 d. 3-14-1885 9. Thomas Scott b.3-15-1827 d. 9-15-1827 10. Moses Scott b. 3-15-1827 d.9-17-1911 *Moses and Thomas were twins 11. Anna S. Scott b. b. 2-28-1830 d. 7-15-1852 12. Martha Scott b. 9-11-1832 d. 9-17-1908 m. George Lowdermilk. Had one son who lived in Oklahoma [I think the spelling was probably in error, believe it was Loudermilk.] My comments are in brackets. I have found this Robert Scott family in the 1840 Federal Census of Greenbrier Co, [West]VA. It is a good fit down to the 20 year difference in age between Robert and Elizabeth and accounting for children who had died and married by 1840. There are marriage records for Robert Jr., John, maybe James, Sabina, Elizabeth, Cyrus, Moses and Martha in Greenbrier and Pocahontas records. I have found Robert, Cyrus, John, James maybe, Elizabeth and census of Greenbrier, Pocahontas and Jackson Counties. I have more documentation about John and his children that shows Anna R. Edminster was fairly accurate with her "Scott Family History". At this time I am speculating that Robert Scott could possibly be the son of Thomas and Jemima (Dozier) Scott who lived in Lunenburg, VA and moved to Craven, Co. South Carolina. There were Crofts living in Craven County, SC at the same time. Is anyone else researching these families? Does anyone on this list have access to records in S.C.? I have more written about John Scott and family on my website, www.scottfamilyplace.org. Their moves from Greenbrier Co. to Jackson County, [West] Va to Missouri to Washington State are well documented. This website is a work in progress, changes are made weekly. Cheers fellow researchers, Barb Scott
