    1. [SCOTT] Indian Trader help
    2. Thank you for the many replies to my inquiry. I have a Joel Mannen Scott born June 1823, not exactly sure where, but he was supposed to be half Indian, not sure where the info that he was Cherokee originated. I made a mistake when I answered some of you and said he fled to MO then MS. I should have said MO and then AL. Children or grandchildren from his first marriage later moved to MS. Children from his third marriage moved to OK with their mother. Children from the second marriage changed their surnames. Joel died July 25, 1891 in Hodges, AL. Joel had a brother, James Wesley Scott, born 1826, who went with him and their grandmother...a Native American...no name known. MO seems to be where the brothers split up. Joel and the grandmother eventually going to AL and James riding by horseback to Texas. I know nothing about James' family. I have names of the children and some grandchildren and great grands of Joel from the first and third marriage. Any help appreciated in seaching for Joel and James ancestry. I was told Joel was on a NC census record, but have not been able to find this source. If one of his parent's was Indian, then from reading history, it is likely that his father could have been the trader for a tribe. They often married a woman in the tribe. I am looking for any angle on this. Mistakes in family histories are always possible, so if you see any possible match, any tribe, please e-mail me. Thanks, Margie Scott [email protected]
