Hallo all from Sunny South Africa! I am a new member of the list and my interest is in the Scott family from (New) Aberdour, Aberdeenshire - and I am hoping that someone on the list can help me find an elusive ancestor. I would like to make contact with anybody on the list that is researching the Scotts from New Aberdour The Story of my Scott ancestor is briefly as follows: A Samuel Scott arrived by sea on the Gipsy Bride in South Africa during May 1858. The passenger list indicated that he was a ploughman and that he was to be employed by a Mr. Fell in Salt River in Cape Town. It is assumed that he came to South Africa on the so-called "assisted passage" program. Contact with a descendant of Samuel's father (Helen Allen, or Cousin Nel) in Larbert Scotland during 1973/4 indicated that Samuel last "port' was Dumfries "Cousin Nel" mentioned two brothers of Samuel i.e. William, an engine driver and the other a stonemason but the name unknown. From the names of the sons of our Samuel we can assume that the family names must have been Samuel, William and John. A further family name could have been George or McGeorge, the latter possibly indicating a link to the McGeorge family. I have found a family with similar names and a Samuel with similar age in Scots Origins, IGI and the LDS Family History Library. It was the best possible match. The father, John, was born in Kellywaren, Aberdour, Aberdeenshire and married a Margaret Garrard. Samuel was born on 24 March 1838 and his father in Dec 1807 Anybody with details of th New Aberdour Scott "clan" please contact me Regards Dennis Pretorius Krugersdorp, South Africa Tel +27-11-769-2400 Cel +27-83-324-2238 Web Site : www.krugersdorp.org E-mail :[email protected] ============================== Search more than 150 million free records at RootsWeb! http://searches.rootsweb.com/ Dennis Pretorius Krugersdorp, South Africa Tel +27-11-769-2400 Cel +27-83-324-2238 Web Site : www.krugersdorp.org E-mail :[email protected]
