Hi list I am looking for Richard Scott who had 18 coat of Arms and was connected to Scots Hall in Kent England. Richard Scott, a direct descendant of the Scotts of Scott Hall, coming to America and having in his possession a Pedigree Roll showing 18 different colored shields of the coats of Arms of his ancestors. Below is a copy of some of the information that I have ."Richard Scott who married Mary Whitenall in 15?? Richard Scott the immigrant, has a very interesting background which few historians have studied back to the time of Moses and to the origin of Scotland. Interesting enough the name wasn't even Scott in the beginning. Pierre Bailieul, Lord of Fiscamp of Normandy, France, came into England with William the Conqueror and was the progenitor of John Baliol, the of "Baliol College" in Oxford. John was a Baron of great wealth and influence who had married Deruorgille, a descendant of the Original Scots of Scotland. She was the daughter of Alan-Lord of Galloway and his wife Margaret, who was the eldest daughter of David-Earl of Huntington', whose brother was "William the Lion". Margaret had a brother John who was the Earl of Chester and he was called John Scot. John Scot and his sister Margaret had a family tree which consisted of many great names. Charlemagne, William the Conqueror, Alfred the Great, Romanus I of the Greek Empire, Waldimar the Great of Russia, Henry I Emperor of Germany, Baldwin-First Count of Flanders, Rollo-First Duke of Normandy, King Fergus of Scotland and William the Lion, as well as being descendants of the original Scots of Scotland. The original of Scotland, as given by certain historians, is believed to go back to the time of Moses crossing the Red Sea, and was drowned. Scota had married Niul, a Greek warrior who was son of Fenusa-Forsa King of Athens. Niul was made a General in the Pharaohs army. Scota and Niul had a son Gadelas and they lived in the lands of Capacirunt by the red Sea. Moses and his people camped on Niuls land and while there Niul took his son Gadelas into Moses camp to gain intelligence of Moses plans. On the way there the boy, Gadelas, was bitten by a poisonous snake. Moses cured the boy with is miraculous rod and prophesied that the boys descendants would one day inhabit a large western island on which were no poisonous snakes. In gratitude for saving his sons life, Niul supplied the Israelites with provisions, unknown to his Father-in-law Pharaoh Cingers. Shortly after this the Pharaoh followed Moses into the Red Sea and was drowned. Niul had seized the Kings ships and from them beheld the overthrow of the Pharaohs host into the Red Sea. So Scota and her son Gadelas survived, and 3 generations later her tribe left Egypt and after spending more generations in what is not Portugal, the tribe eventually moved on to what is now Scotland and began populating that country about 192 years after Moses made his prophecy. Later, many of the descendants of this tribe of Scota, attached the name Scotus to their names to denote their nativity. Much later, distinguished persons of this Scotch blood added the suffix 'le Scot" to their Christian names. As did John, son of Alan-"Lord of Galloway" who called himself John le Scot. Now John Scot was the jovial table companion of Charles the Great, but he was also a school master and a very strict one. So strict in fact this his students one dayt tacked him with their penknives and killed him. John Scot had no children. But his grgrandnephew grandson of Margaret William Baliol, added the suffix 'le Scot' to his name in memory of his great uncle John Scot. William Baliol 'le scot' was the youngest brother of King John Baliol who was crowned( on the famous crowning stone at Scone) king of Scotland in 1292. King John was dethroned in 1296 and thrown into prison by King Edward the I, at which time the famous crowing stone of Scone was stolen from its original place and taken and placed under the throne of England in West Minister Abbey in London, where it remains to this day. king John died in prison before the year 1300. King Edward the I was so furious with the Baliol family that he also hung Alexander Baloil, another brother to King John. Following this hanging, William Baliol 'le scot' also feared for his life, so he dropped the name Baliol and assumed the name of William Scot. he then became progenitor of the wealthy English family, the "Scotts of Scott Hall of Kent". 300 years and many generations later we find Richard Scott, a direct descendant of the Scotts of Scott Hall, coming to America and having in his possession a Pedigree Roll showing 18 different colored shields of the Goats of Arms of his ancestors. Richard Scott born in 1607 in the parish of Glemaford in Suffolk Co. England . He came to America in 1634 in the "Griffin". On this same boat came William Hutchinson and his wife Anne ( Marbury) and her sisisteratherine Marbury. ( Anne HhHutchinsonas later banished into the wilderness by Gov. Winthrop for her religious beliefs). They all joined the church of Boston that same year. Sorry for the length of the e-mail but would not want to have some one going to all the hard work of looking up something for me that I already have. Joan Beebe Meddaugh

There has been a slowdown in activity on this list in recent days. I'd like to get things re-started by suggesting a ROLLCALL AND BRICKWALL call. So please post your ancestors relevant to this surname list and, most of all, let us know what your BRICKWALLS are! Please be focused and to the point - don't list entire pedigrees! The subject line should have a full name (if appropriate), locale abbreviation, a direction of migration, another locale abbreviation, and the approximate dates. For instance, George Scott moving from Scotland to New Brunswick, Canada, to Kentucky around 1820 to 1840 would look like: SCOTT, George SCT>NB CAN>KY abt. 1820-1840 If you don't know the complete name, migration route, or dates, it is permissible to leave them out of the subject line and put an explanation in the message body. However, the more complete the subject line, the more likely someone with a similar interest will read your email. BE SURE TO INCLUDE THE LOCALE AND DATE RANGE IN YOUR MESSAGE even if they are only your best guess. Both can make a huge difference in locating a likely connection! For more information about using this list, see the Frequently Asked Questions and List Rules sent to you when you subscribed to this list. This document explains just about everything you need to know about using the list, unsubscribing, etc. As for using the list, it can be boiled down to these three simple rules: 1. BE NICE. No "flaming" of others, offensive language, or nasty criticisms of posts. 2. KEEP ON TOPIC. By that I mean genealogy pertaining to this surname. No virus reports, or commercial advertising, etc. Rootsweb has a list for a variety of interesting topic include virus reports and genealogy materials for sale. Rootsweb prohibits the selling or promotion of commercial projects. If you find something useful post the name/author a brief description and ask anyone interested to contact you off list. At no time may prices be posted. 3. HAVE FUN! Married Adora Bird, then Myrta Ward. Moved with Myrta to Chico, CA. There are a lot of people who have been unable to find who his parents were; we only know they were from NY. His cousin was Alexander C. Scott, son of Richard. Richard's father was John, so I assume he was Lewis' grandfather as well. Any information regarding Lewis' or John's parentage would be most welcome. I've read elsewhere that this line traces back to Jeckomiah Scott, son of Capt. John Scott of Long Island fame (or infamy, depending on the source). Would dearly love to fill in the missing generations.
Looking for relatives of Marion Scott. Born about 1907 or 8 in either Ulysses or Bingham, Potter County. This line is related to me thru my mother Dorcas Schwartz Beebe sister to Marjorie Schwartz who married Marion Scott. Marion married my aunt Marjorie Schwartz/ Swartz daughter of David L. Schwartz and Nora C Wheeler Schwartz of Ulysses. Marion and Marjorie from about 1928 lived in Niagara Falls, NY. Marion died in 1975 Marjorie in 1998 both in Niagara Falls. I know my cousins ( the children of Marion and Marjorie) but don't know much about his family. If any of you Scotts are connected to this particular family let me know thru my private e-mail at lpmj@Juno.com. Marion has a brother named Nate. Another scott line I am interested in is on the Meddaugh side of the family which is my husband's line. It starts with a Richard Scott who married Mary Whitenall about 157? I have quite a bit of info about this line of Scotts and would like to make contact with this relatives. They also may reach me thru my private e-mail at lpmj@juno.com. Thank you . Sam, if I have dropped you a line in the past, please excuse me. Chalk it up to old age--I don't mean to be a pest. I am the coordinator for the Scott Family DNA project. You listed several names in a Scot-L posting that several of us have in our families: Thomas, Andrew, James, Samuel. If you have any interest in our project, send me an e-mail. So far we have over 25 Scott males who have been tested. Several of us have a common ancestor (discovered by the DNA test) and we work together as a group to try and help the others. Thanks for your time. Charlie Scott, Louisville, KY PS: My line goes like this: John Scott (born in 1706) came to America out of Ireland in 1745 and settled in PA. I am still researching William Simon Scott born circa 1844 and his brother Peyton Lewis Scott born circa 1855. Have hit a major brick wall and I am stumped. William shows up in the 1880 Dyer County TN. census records with wife Ann Eliza (King) Scott. Dyer County TN. marraige records say they were married in 1874 in Dyer County TN. I cannot find William in the Dyer County TN. 1870 census records so he must have came to Dyer County from parts unknown around that time. Family legend also says he may have had a brother Alfred. I am not 100% sure that Peyton was his brother as I cannot connect these two together in a census report. Family legend says Peyton was his brother and both are buried in the same cemetary so I assume he is. Peyton died in early 1900's and his family moved to Texas. Peyton's family say they came from possibly KY. I have searched KY over to no avail. William Simon Scott death certificate says he was born in TN and that his fathers name was William Simon Sco! tt also. Any help, ideas, comments or info are GREATLY appreciated. Thanks for your time.
Gary, I will pass along anything that can be confirmed to the SCOTT list but this is a mysterious bunch. I started out trying to track (for a friend) the family of (presented this way in 1860 Fed Census Union Twp, Izard Co., AR J. B. SCOTT 44 <1815> KY Nancy SCOTT (Hively) 35 <1824> AR Samuel SCOTT 17 <1840> AR Susan SCOTT 15 <1844> AR Jane SCOTT 13 <1846> AR Mary SCOTT 11 < 1848> AR Lucinda SCOTT 10 <1849> AR Angeline SCOTT 6 <1853> AR Nancy SCOTT 4 <1855> AR George SCOTT 7/12 <1859> AR Richard ELLIS 21 <1838> AL The 1850 Census shows an older daughter in this family as Martha SCOTT <1840> AR Also, 1870 Census shows another youngest son in this family as Daniel SCOTT <1861/2> AR so this would make a total of ten children to this family. The father in this family is also shown as James B. SCOTT, and we have information that James B. Scott is the brother to Jehoida J. Sams's wife, Sarah SCOTT. (Jehoida J. Sams writes about he and his wife both being orphans when they married, plus the fact that the Sams family raise the youngest sibling, Robert D. SCOTT in their household). The two siblings, James B and Sarah, both born in KY are closer in age than their other siblings that are known who are younger and were born in IL. The other known siblings were Nancy SCOTT (who little is known about) and the youngest known sibling, Robert D. SCOTT who m1 a Partee and m2 a Gillihan. The parents of these siblings has not been identified by us (and have not been found identfied elsewhere). But the interesting addition to this body of knowledge is that living next door to the J.B. SCOTT in 1860 is household #508 Jane SMITH 46 <1813> SC John DENTON 23 <1836> AR James DENTON 19 <1840> AR Samuel DENTON 9 <1850> AR Robert DENTON 6 <1853> AR Rebecca DENTON 1 <1858> AR (An older daughter, Martha DENTON is thought to have married John Ferguson before this Census) It is thought that the widow Jane Smith was previously the widow Jane Denton, who may be the Jane SCOTT that had married Jonathan DENTON in Greene Co., MO 03 Jan 1833. These new thoughts have led us to seek the family identification of the Joshua G. SCOTT and Samuel SCOTT that are documented in the 1833 Greene Co., MO Tax List. If anyone has any ideas as to the families of these two men, please let us know! Any information about Joshua G. or Samuel SCOTT's families might help us identify the parents of James B. SCOTT, Sarah SCOTT SAMS, Nancy SCOTT and youngest Robert D. SCOTT and now possibly another sister Jane SCOTT DENTON. If anyone knows anything about these folks, won't you please share your knowledge? I am trying to find out the first and surname of the wife of this Thomas Scott. His wife was dead by 1860, apparently. His children were Permelia, Mary, Spencer, Absolem, and emily, all born SC. He probably married before 1737, and his wife may have been a Butler. Any help with this family would be very much appreciated. Dorothy Welsh
