    1. JONAS SCOTT 1773 CT > NY
    2. Helen O'Connor
    3. Looking for confirmation that the Jonas Scott, b 28 Oct 1773, Willington, Tolland, CT, son of John Scott and Mary Johnson, mar. 1754 Willington, is the same Jonas Scott that was in Pompey, Onondaga Co., NY in 1800, Manlius, Onondaga Co. in 1810, Dryden, Tompkins Co. in 1820 & 30 and North Norwich, Chenago Co. in 1840 & 50. Jonas was mar. to Polly Cook No marriage record in Willington for Jonas and Polly. In 1800 in Pompey there were 3 male Cooks in the census, so they might be related to Polly. In 1800 Pompey there was also a Thomas Scott and in 1810 Manlius there was also a Joseph Scott. In 1830 there was a Benjamin and John Scott in Manlius. In 1811 2 John Scott's died in Pompey, one born in 1750 and the other born in 1780. Do not know the relation of these other Scotts. John Scott and Mary Johnson had 11 children all born in Willington, CT. They were: Sarah, 1754, John, 1759, Elizabeth 1761, Joseph, 1763, Luther 1765, Samuel 1767, Susannah, 1769, James 1771, Jonas 1773, Jonathan 1733 (twins), and Zelotus 1776. (Barbour Collection of CT Town Vital Records) There were no Jonas Scotts in the CT censuses. Found in NY were 2 Jonas' , but the 1 in NYC was still in NYC in the next census whereas the Jonas that I'm working on was in Onondaga Co. I have found no other Jonas Scotts except the one above with a birth date that would have him be father of his first child in 1798. His known children are Jonas, 1798 and Olive 1800. 2. John SCOTT b. 1790 Ireland is my Brickwall. Here is my timeline for John SCOTT: 1790 birth,Ireland [source 1850 census] 1812/1819 Living in OH [Naturaliztion papers] bef 1820 Marriage to Ellen Beaver b. 1802 PA [no rec. found] 1834 Application for Naturalization - Carroll Co.OH 1835 Finalized Naturalization Papers - Carroll Co.OH 1840 Carroll Co.,OH Rose Twp. census - eleven children in household and wife 1850 Carroll Co.,OH Brown Twp. census - nine children in household and wife After 1850 I have no record of John SCOTT again nor his wife. Most of their children migrated to Owen Co.IN early 1850 until bef 1860. One stayed in OH that I have found. One childs obit stated that they came to IN and lived with their children moving from one to the other?? I have found no burial records for them either. John's Naturalization papers state he was from Ireland as does the 1850 census, but I know not where. His wife was from PA....after coming to the USA did he come through PA first and meet and marry Ellen BEAVER?? Family lore and an old obit say there were 14 SCOTT children, I have only found 11. I can find him listed on no ships list. If anyone is connected to this family, I would love to hear from you. 1. Brick Wall: Shepherd Scott (VT, 1778-1851)
    2. Mary Celine Scott
    3. Shepherd "appears" in the first Grand List of Townshend, Windham , VT, dated 14 Sept 1801. Based on census records, he was born in VT. He owned property with, and is buried next to Woodruff Scott (ca 1786 - 1846). I have not been able to link them to the family of Capt. Waitstill Scott of Cheshire, NH, who was in Townshend in the same era & returned to NH (or any other Scott line). Shepherd was married to Eunice Benson, who I believe to be the daughter of Moses Benson. Eunice's son, Pardon, is listed in Woodruff's will. Woodruff's wife was Hannah, and may have been Eunice's sister. All four are buried in Maple Grove Cem, Townshend. My line of the family remained in the area until my great-grandfather (Shepherd's grandson) moved to Texarkana after losing a leg at the Battle of Cold Harbor (Civil War). -- Mary Celine Scott http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/s/c/o/MARY-C-SCOTT/

    3. Sometimes when my own research isn't moving very fast, I like to study the census records. Would it be alright to list various Scott families that I find here, hoping that it would help someone else? By the way, I continue to search for my greatgrandmother Mary Ann Scott born 1864 in Arkansas. She was raised with the surname Hayes (Native American?) and married James Pearce in 1880. They lived in Polk County, Arkansas and moved into Indian Territory in the late 1890s. She married James Newberry in 1901 after James Pearce died. Mary Ann died in 1905. Billie Billie
