Britain Scott was born 1795 - 1799, probably in GA. Other variations of his name are: Brittain, Briton, Britton. He married Nancy Price in Emanuel Co. GA in 1816. They raised 9 children in Emanuel Co. GA and both died there. I have lots of information on Britain, his family and his descendants. Census records for Britain indicate that his parents were also born in GA. A family Bible says that Britain was the son of William and J_____? (name unclear.) I am looking for information about where Britain was from and who his parents were.
I have two Scotts who are brick walls. I have no reason to believe they might be connected, but you never know. #1 Thomas Scott married Sarah Mahurin. Sarah was born about 1788. She married Thomas Scott 10/11/1805 in Shelby Co., KY. I have much information on the Mahurins, but nothing else on Thomas Scott. Thomas and Sarah had at least 6 children, James, William, Sanford, Nancy, Arthur, and Thomas. #2 James Scott married Elizabeth Schultz. Nothing else about either one. They had a daughter Malinda, born 2/26/1812 in Kentucky, married Syrenus Emmons 12/30/1832 in Floyd Co. IN, and died 10/27/1888 in Jackson County, IN. I have Emmons information, but again, nothing about James Scott or his wife. Wouldn't it be something to connect this James with #1 above? In the next generation, a daughter of Syrenus and Malinda, Mary, married a Mahurin. I suppose it's not too big a stretch to imagine that #1 and #2 are related., but I have no indication of that at this point. Mary -- No virus found in this outgoing message. I've been looking for a John Scott who lived in Bedford County and Campbell County, Virginia. His daughter Amy married John Littlepage in 1785. John was the son of John's second wife, Elizabeth Mathews Littlepage, widow of Richard Littlepage of Brunswick County who died in Bedford County in 1780. I suspect that Richard's mother was an Eppes, but have NO proof. Richard and Elizabeth had a son named Epps Littlepage. John and Amy Scott Littlepage had a son named Eppes Littlepage. Does anyone know anything about the connection to the Eppes family? There was an earlier John Scott who was the son of John Scott and Bethyer Boyce Scott. That John Scott married Amy Goodwyn and had two sons, John and Thomas. He, unfortunately, died quite young. Amy married Isham Eppes and raised a family with him. Since my John Scott had a daughter named Amy (not a common name back then) I have often wondered if there was a connection - especially since Amy and her father then married into a family where there was a child named Epps. (John married the mother and Amy married that mother's son.) One source I found thought yes - another no. I promised myself that this will be the year that I crack this - and with your help I just might do that. I'm looking for Robert SCOTT born Philadelphia c 1854 son of Robert Hill SCOTT, stonemason. And Christopher SCOTT born 1845-1847 Ireland, son of Robert SCOTT, joiner. (Although he also described him as a millwright.) Both are in England on the 1881 census. Robert died before the 1891 census, but Christopher is there. He married Robert's widow the same year - they lived in the same street in Salford, Lancashire. Christopher is on the 1901 census but died later that year. I have nothing on Christopher before 1874 and the earliest I have info on Robert is 1876. I'd really like any of the following if you kind listers can assist....please? Either of them on any census before 1881 - the Salford/Manchester area is a likely place although they could still be in Ireland or Philly. Family lore has the Robert was in Canada (I know, not helpful). A baptism for either of them - although Christopher is my main concern. Any reference to either before 1874 and 1876. Additional info which may or may not be true - Christopher was 'Scottish' - haven't quite worked that one out yet. Christopher was also Protestant, not Catholic (and I know that is true - he was buried as a 'Dissenter'. There's a connection with the flax industry. I'm really stumped with this line - I've pursues almost everything I can especially with Christopher - who has covered his tracks so well I'm sure he was in some kind of witness protection programme. Many thanks in advance Maggie

Hello all, My brick wall is John Scott and Elizabeth McGlachlan (or maybe McGlashan) who had a son William Scott baptised in Glasgow on 14 January 1841, the Father John is described as a Marble Polisher. I have plenty of information on William who was educated in Edinburgh, trained as a school teacher and went to Manchester and taught at the Presbyterian Day School and then became a Congregational Minister at Chorlton Road Church in Manchester, went to Ipswich, then to Australia and back to England and died in 1905 in Hornsea, Yorkshire. I do know that William was the only son of the marriage, and the only marriage record I can find which could be his parents is 7 July 1819 in Edinburgh. From William's obituary I know John was an elder of the Presbyterian Church and he was still alive in 1879 living at 19 Arnott Street (no place) which is the address on a letter in my possession written to William. William's son, John Longdin Scott (my Grandfather) named his house in Sydney, Australia "Dirleton" which I feel maybe a clue as to where they came from in Scotland. Can anyone offer any assistance. Hello, Joan. I'm sorry to tell you that this Scott information is a muddle of fact, fiction and myth. It's a DFA, descent from antiquity -- there are many fraudulent such lines "published" in the 1800s and 1900s, and earlier as well. However, the experts say that _NO_ DFA has been documented. (Too bad -- such an interesting family tree!) Two lines generally accepted are Alfred the Great, beginning with Cerdic, d. 534, King of the West Saxons; and Charlemagne, beginning with Rotrou, d. 724, who m. Charles Martel. These are not DFAs. Reference: Ancestral Roots of Certain American Colonists Who Came to America before 1700, eighth edition. Frederick Lewis Weis, with additions and corrections by William R. Beall and Kaleen E. Beall. Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., 2004. I can only suggest that you take your own most recent documented Scott ancestor, and work backward, one generation at a time.
