    1. BRICKWALL (CONTINUED): SCOTT VA>TN ABT. 1775-1817
    2. Genevieve Bell
    3. HERE ARE FURTHER FACTS WHICH MIGHT HELP IN IDENTIFYING THE FATHER OF GEORGE R. SCOTT. The father was born in Virginia abt 1790 and moved to Davidson Co. TN. His son, my gggrandfather George R. Scott was born in Davidson Co. TN in 1817. He married Hester Ann Haltom in Madison Co. TN in 1839 and their son Calvin Batson Scott was born there in 1840. Calvin married Ann Jane Byrn in 1863 in Humphreys Co. TN. Among their children was CORDELIA (#1)SCOTT b 1870 in Bakersfield, Humphreys Co. TN. I have a copy of a letter dated Bakersfield April 1887 from a CORDELIA SCOTT #2, b 1868 daughter of ALFRED WASHINGTON SCOTT AND VICTORIA PORCH addressed to her cousin CORDELIA SCOTT #1 in Dresden, Weakley Co. TN, daughter of Calvin Batson Scott and granddaughter of GEORGE R. SCOTT. Reference is made to "Grandma Porch" who had been living in the household of Alfred Washington Scott and died in 1887. I would be most grateful for any help in identifying the relationship between Alfred Washington Scott b. 1827 in Davidson Co. AND George R. Scott b. 1817 in Davidson Co. This could be crucial in identifying George R. Scott's father. It is possible that George R. Scott and Alfred Washington Scott were half-brothers. Genevieve Scott Bell

    1. SCOTT, Early Gleaves
    2. Joyce Ragels
    3. Born 13 Jan 1881 in Marion, Smyth County, Virginia. He died in Oct 1972 in Lovelock, Pershing County, Nevada. son of Charles Westley Scott America Virginia Grossclose married to Grace Lebow or Lebora. Other children of this marriage were: Hazel I Mildred I Clarence Raymond C Earl G Bryon L The family was in Minidoka ID in 1920 where a baby girl was born in Oct. She was given away at birth. The names of the parents are on her birth certificate. Early and Grace were divorced by the 1930 census. According to the SS-5 Early filled out on 29 Apr 1942, he was living in Buhl, Idaho, working at the Gibbs Cigar Store, and was age 61. A Bryon LeRoy Scott born 28 Jun 1918 in Idaho died 10 Sep 1994 in CA. An Earl G Scott died 4-26-65 in CA. This Bryon looks like he could be the same. I don't have a clue whether or not Earl could be. I am the daughter of the baby girl that was given away and would appreciate both current and past information on this family. Thanks J -- Joyce Ragels Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind. - Dr. Seuss

I am stumped. "Ellen Gosnell died at the home of her son-in-law Mr. Jacob W. Myers, 323 North Stricker Street, Baltimore County, near Ellicott City. Mrs. Gosnell was in her seventy-eighth year and relict of the late Thomas B. Gosnell, for many years a bailiff in the Howard County Circuit Court. She was a second cousin of Gen. Winfield Scott. Her maiden name was Shipley, and her mother was a daughter of Richard Scott, who was a soldier of 1812, and uncle of General Scott. She leaves four children, namely; Messrs. Upton S., Charles S.,and Thomas G. Gosnell, and Mrs. Jacob W. Myers, all of Baltimore, and sixteen grandchildren." Here's a little more information for you all: Ellen Shipley Gosnell 28 Oct 1814-30 May 1892 was the daughter of Henry Shipley 8 Jan 1783-19 Aug 1833 and Sarah Ann Scott 1788(ish)-18 Nov 1852. And so...**who** is Sarah Scott Shipley's father, Richard Scott, and *where* does Richard come from? 3. Hello Helen I note in your email of 11 March that you have a David Ross Scott born 1861. My line back through my paternal grandmother has a Ross family. My g'mother was a Baxter. In 1800 a son, George Ross Baxter was born to Hannah Wallace Ross, who was born in 1781. HWR's parents were Charles Ross, a Wright in Dundee and Jean Nicoll. I do not have any more dates going into the past for these people. I note that Caputh is not many miles from Dundee. Does any of this ring any bells.
