Looking for the siblings and parents of Robert SCOTT who was born 22 August 1764 in Belfast, Ireland and emigrated to the U.S. in 1795 arriving in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in June. Later settled in Hamburg, Pennsylvania in 1803 and lived in that area until he died 24 February 1837. Robert came to the US with his cousin, Samuel, BELL, who settled in Reading, Pennsylvania. Robert SCOTT carried with him a certificate from the A. G. Mason's Lodge of Belfast, Ireland recommending Robert to all good Masons of the World. This was his traveling card. Robert's father's name is reported to be John SCOTT of Belfast who came there from Scotland. Robert SCOTT in 1806 married Catherine KLINGER and had these children: Elizabeth, born in 1810, died three years later; John W. born 1814 married Rebecca LEWARS.; Mary Matilda born abt. 1816 married Arthur FESIG; and Sarah born abt. 1818 who married first Robert STITZEL and second John RUPP.

Until recently, Julia Scott, born abt 1836/37 Oneida county, NY, was my brickwall. She married Charles B. Hart prob. in Oneida County, NY before 16 Jul 1855 when their first child Sarah Maria Hart was born in New Hartford, Oneida, NY. Charles Hart and Julia Scott had six other children, all Hart: Asa born 1859, Charles born 1861, Julia born 1864, Mary born 1866, Ellen born 1868 and May born May 1870. Now my brick wall is Julia's father Cotton/Colton Scott. Julia Scott and Charles Hart were my husband's maternal g great grandparents. I found Julia Scott under her married name in the household of Cotton/Colton Scott, age 63, in the 1860 US Census for Annesville, Oneida, NY. Also in the household were Sarah Hart, 4, Asa Hart, 1 (Sarah's children), Miranada (spelled Myranda) Scott, 53, Walter Scott, 24, Zelotas Van Slyke, 34 and Martha Van Slyke, 27(Cotton and Miranda's dau). Cotton Scott was a farmer, Myranda did house work, Walter was a carpenter, Julia did housework, Zelotas was a farmer and Martha did housework. All members of the household were born NY. To make sure that Cotton Scott was the probable father of Julia Scott, I checked the 1850 US Census for Kirkland, Oneida, NY. There Cotton, 54, is listed with his probable wife Miranda, 43, and a male Walter, 16, and two females Martha, 18 and Julia, 13. Cotton Scott can be found in the 1820, 1830 and 1840 US Censuses, all for Oneida county, NY. I found a burial for a Huldah Scott, listed as wife of Cotton Scott, in the Old Clinton, Burying Ground, Kirkland, Oneida, NY (USGenwebProject, NY, Oneida, Kirlkland, Old Clinton Burying Ground, at rootsweb.com). She died 18 Aug 1827 aged 34, making her born about 1793. In the 1820 US Census for Bridgewater, Oneida, NY, Cotton (age 26-45) is the only male in his household. There were two females under ten years of age, one female 26-45 (probably Huldah), and one female 45 and over. In 1830, the US Census for Kirkland, Oneida, NY, Cotton is again the only male (30-40) in his household; there was one female under five, one female five to ten, and one female 20-30 (probably Miranda, Cotton's second wife born about 1803). The two young females may well have been Cotton's two daughters by his first wife Huldah. In 1840, the US Census shows Cotton Scott and family in Kirkland, Oneida, NY. Besides Cotton who is listed as 40 and under 50, there are a male 5 and under 10 (Walter), and three females: one under five (Julia), one 5 and under 10 (Martha) and one 30 and under 40 (wife Miranda). What happened to Cotton? He just disappears after the 1860 census was taken. A Maranda Scott died Eaton, Madison, NY 11 Feb 1889 age 84 years. Was she Cotton's widow? She'd have been born c 1805 so she was about the right age to be his wife. Who were Cotton's parents, grandparents, etc.? What was Miranda's surname? What was first wife Huldah's surname? Was his name really Cotton or was it Colton? If any of this rings a bell with any of you other Scott researchers, I'd like to hear from you. I'm always happy to share what I have with other researchers. Thanks so much. Daveda Bundy

I found Illinois Statewide Marriage Index, 1763-1900 SCOTT, ULYSSES G REECE, MARY MAGDALEN 11/05/1885 JEFFERSON COUNTY ILLINOIS . I believe these are all the same people but the only thing I know for sure is that my grandmother was LAVADA ELLEN SCOTT b. Mt Vernon, Jefferson, Illinois in 1886. She has other siblings ; CHARLES D. SCOTT 1888; MATTHEW PRESTON SCOTT 1890 ; MARY E. SCOTT 1892; ADDA SCOTT 1894; IZETTA SCOTT Scott 1896 and ORA SCOTT 1899. Lavada Ellen Scott married JOSEPH HENDRICKSON in 1904. They had their children in Wayne or Butler County Missouri and are buried in Oak Hill Cem in Butler County Missouri. Are any of these names familiar to anyone? This is the first possible break through that I have had. Thank You Donna Ezell Carter

One of my Brickwalls is not being able to go back further than the marriage of Charles and Mary Cornwall 24/9/1695 in the Parish Church of Chenies Buckinghamshire The descendents of this couple moved to London in the early 1800's and stayed living there. The other Brickwall is that I cannot find the birth of Sarah Scott (father Henry) who was born in the 1940's and died in Hammersmith 25/11/1921. On each Census she is down as a different district of birth in London and I have checked so many. Hope some of the Listers can spread some light on these SCOTTS. Many thanks to all. Dorothy Wood (nee Scott)

Do any of you have information concerning the parents of Absolom Scott--could be Absolem Scott? My brick wall is Thomas G Scott. Thomas G. Scott Senior and Junior, were in Prince Williams Parish, Beaufort District, South Carolina census records beginning 1790 through 1810. Thomas G Scott, Jr. married Mary Stevens on November 2, 1800 Marriage Notices in The South-Carolina Gazette AND ITS SUCCESSORS. (1732-1801.) Married, on Sunday, the 2d instant, by the Rev. Mr. Gourley, Thomas G. Scott, Esq. to the amiable Miss Mary Stevens, both of Prince William's parish. (published Friday, November 21, 1800.) There is possibly a sister to Thomas. Jr who married: 9/29/1809, At the Saltketchers (S.C.) on August 10, Mr. Isaac A.E. Chovin to Miss Amelia Scott, daughter of Thomas G. Scott, Esq. In earlier records there were other Thomas G Scott's but don't know if they are connected to mine: Prince Fredericks Parish: Thomas Scott son of Thomas Gwillim Scott b. 17Oct 1762 and bapt by Rev. George Skeen Thomas Gullm Scott departed this life ____ 1765 and was buried ____ John Scott, son of Thomas Gwillim and Elezbeth, b. 14Mar1760 and bapt by Rev. Mr. Skeen. Records of Court Proceedings: Citation to Elizabeth Scott, widow of Thomas Gulliem Scott of P. Frederick's Parish 26Oct 1765 1784 Tax Returns (Continued from vol, 3, p.182.) SCMAR, Vol. III, Fall 1975, No. 4, p.202 Thomas Gul'm(?) Scott 75,75-3 1786 Tax Returns: Scott, Thos. 200 5 3 9 4 Gm(?) The various spellings of Gwillim, Gulliem, etc, make it difficult to search and don't know if that was my Thomas G's middle name or not. From census records, it appears both Thomas Sr & Jr had died by 1820. Thomas Jr. died before Nov 1817, as Mary Scott as administrator of the estate of her husband T.G. Scott, for relief of "double taxation" at that time. There were other Scott's in Beaufort District during that time, but not in Prince Williams Parish so don't know if they were connected. I would like to know from whom Thomas G Scott, Sr descended and who he married and if there were any other children. Would love to know pretty much anything about the whole familiy. Mary Stevens, wife of Thomas Scott Jr was the daughter of David Stevens and Susannah (Page)Timmons. They had two known children, Mary and Eliza (or Elizabeth). Eliza married Isaac Abrahams in Glynn Co Georgia and had no known children. Thomas Scott Jr and Mary Stevens Scott had two known children that accompanied her to Glynn Co Georgia after the death of her husband. They were Amanda Fitzallen Scott and Alexander Cuthbert Scott. Amanda Scott married Vardy Woolley in GA. He was also from SC. Alexander Cuthbert Scott, from whom I descend, married Eliza J Brown. .All help greatly appreciated. Anne
