Scott Family - Clarion & Mercer Co., Pennsylvania. Our Scott family brickwalls are the ancestors of Robert Scott b.abt 1847, son of Matthew & Talitha (Soliday) Scott. We lose track, after 1850, on census for Matthew or Talitha Scott; they just disappear. Robert Scott married Tamer Keister daughter of Adam & Mary Keister of Clarion Co. Thank you.
I received this info from another list and thought I would share it with the Scott list.... Still trying to identify the parents of Charles Scott, b.1805/06 in Jefferson Co., Ohio d. 4/18/1864 Harrison Co., OH. Ohio became a state in 1803. I am slowly going over 1810 & 1820 census records looking for Scotts in Jefferson & surrounding areas. Charles was married by the time of the 1830 census. I am going to need add'tl info. to narrow the list of suspects as there are dozens of Scotts in the area in that era. Charles married Margaret Dodds on 4/20/1830, in Harrison Co., OH. Margaret, b.8/18/1810 IR d. 8/14/1881 Franklin twnshp, Harrison Co.,OH; was d/o James Dodds b.~1790 IR d.1854 Bucyrus, Crawford Co., OH & Esther Clifford b. ~1795 IR d. 1855 Bucyrus. The Dodds family arrived in PA from IR, & moved from the area of Independence & West Middletown, PA to Harrison Co.,OH before the 1830 census. Charles' parents are reported in oral history as having been of Irish descent. All of these folks appear to have been Presbyterians. I suspect they were from Scotland, lived in Ireland (several generations?), & then immigrated to America. Charles & Margaret farmed in Franklin twnshp, Harrison Co., OH. In the 1840 census there is a John Scott, age 40-50, living near them; I have not found this John in the 1830 nor the 1850 records. The known children of Charles & Margaret were: James 1832, m. Caroline LKU Mary 1833, m. ? Hamilton William 9/1834, m. Mary Catherin Auld Esther 1837, m. Andrew McBarnes Eleanor 8/6/1838, m. Henry Pittis Worstell Maria 7/25/1840, m. Pleasant Ohio His children by the first marriage was: Samuel, John, Merchant, George, Elizabeth, Mary and William I would appreciate any help.
The following are my mystery family.. Except for the brief period in time listed I can not find any other families to connect with these folks. David Scott b. 1813 probably in Scotland d. /22/1904, buried Beechwood . Married Francis Eliza Clute 8/22/1850 b. 1832, possibly New York State d. 10/22/1893, buried Beechwood Cem. Ottawa, Canada 1881 Census of Wellington Ward, Ottawa lists the family as: David Scott Married . Scottish origin age 52 Occupation, Clerk and Presbyterian faith. Eliza Scott, Married, German (Dutch) ethnic origin, 48, born in Ontario, same faith. Alvina Scott, Married 18, Ontario birth, Seamstress, same faith. (Could be Anna Scott) Anna married Mr. Lytle. Maria Scott 16, Ontario birth, same faith. Married Joseph Orr. Charles Scott 13, Ontario birth, same faith. Married Jane Berrigan in North Dakota. . Walter Scott 9, Ontario birth, same faith. Walter not married, died in Spanish American War in Manila. 1818 Census, Picton, Prince Edward, Ontario: John Clute Married, German Ethnic origin, 79 USA born, Accountant, C. Presbyterian faith. Maria Clute, Married Irish, 75, USA born, same faith Aggie Scott, Scottish, 22, Ontario born, same faith. Agnes may have married .....Pettingale (various spellings) She is buried on the plot of David and Francis Eliza, Beechwood Cem. Ottawa, Canada. John and Maria were the parents of Francis Eliza Scott and appears the grandparents of Aggie Scott, daughter of David and Francis Eliza Clute Scott. Marriage registration 1869 Lanark Co. Ontario lists Christina Scott (Christine) married S. D. Thomson Also: Ottawa Free Press 1875 Marriages: November 17, 1875 S. P. Thomson, to Christina, daughter of David Scott." Christina, Charles and Walter all left Canada. Charles and Christina to North Dakota. The rest remained in Canada. David Scott was said to have a brother, either Charles James or Charles Stinson Scott who arrived with David in Canada between 1834 to 1840. Both brothers were affiliated with the Delhousie Lodge of Ottawa. If anyone has any connection to this family or extended family I will be extremely happy to hear from you. Nancy (Scott) Thompson Granddaughter of Charles Scott of the illusive Canadian Scotts.

Hello to all of you with "Stone Walls" I, too, have one named Lemuel Scott, born ca 1805, SC, died 1881, Hart county, Georgia. I think his Father was Thomas, but cannot prove it. However, may I remind you of the extensive research by the noted genealogist, Leonardo Andrea. His works are on film, in Spartanburg library and I think at the SC Archives. Good luck! FCrump, Sr
Thank You Maggie I appreciate your advice. I will check out those lists. Kim
I found a little information on Robert T. Scott, the founder of Scottsboro, AL and thought it might be of interest to someone. He is not in my line of Scotts. This is from "The Heritage of Jackson County, Alabama" pub. 1998. Robert T. Scott was born in Greenwill Co., NC on Dec. 1, 1800. He married Elizabeth Ann Parsons of Moven, NC. He moved to Bellefonte in 1834 where he purchased a large farm and hotel-tavern which he named "Belle's Tavern" after his wife, Elizabeth. He was elected to the AL Legislature from Jackson Co. in 1836; circuit clerk in 1838 and to state legislature again in 1839. He and his wife came to Scottsboro between 1850 and 1853, where he built a home on Backbone Ridge calling it "The White Cottage". Robert died June 18, 1863, Elizabeth died 10 years later (b.Oct. 6, 1809-d.Oct. 13, 1873), and they are buried in the family cemetery on Backbone Ridge.
