    3. I am researching my Scott ancestor, but noticed you said you are a Linville. I knew a Don Linville Years ago when he was working in Il. Seems like he would have been born maybe 1920 or around that time. He wasn't from Il, just working there. Nice person. Any relation? 3. Just a thought---Since I am a LINVILLE, it is not a stretch for me to consider looking at the names L-eviel/ Lavielle/Levielle/Levell/Leville/Laval/LAVELY and even LEVY for connections. As a SCOTT researcher for many years I have long seen many connection between the Linville's and Scott's. This may be another bridge..I am excited, especially since family tradition has been that the family were from France. Thank you for the new direction. ----- Original Message ----- From: mary.yoder@verizon.net<mailto:mary.yoder@verizon.net> To: KYNELSON-L@rootsweb.com<mailto:KYNELSON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, April 28, 2005 5:04 PM Subject: [KYNELSON-L] Fw: [MDSTMARY-L] re: Basil Hagan/Eleanor (Ellen) Medcalf Dottie & all-- This is an email received personally from "the" Linda Reno of the SMC website concerning Raphael/Ralph Hagan & wife Rebecca Lavielle. As you see her name is given as Deviel but can't help but wonder if it is L-eviel. Currently chasing Lavielle/Levielle/Levell/Leville/Laval. Also has me curious about the LAVELY family because I have also see Levalee. Would not be impossible that relationship is there considering a French pronucation of the name & the many ways it could be spelled-- depending on how it was heard. Yes, Lavaille goes back to Calvert Co, MD--in the 1800 a Rebecca Lavielle in the Cen.--also James & Uriah who apparently stayed in Calvert Co. 1817 John Level m Polly Pipes Washington Co, Ky (no further data) 1820- Joseph Lavielle m Elizbeth Edmondson Jefferson Co, she d/o Wm. This Joseph listed 1830 Cen St Louis Co, MO with males in his household of the age to be brothers rather than sons. Lavielle women marry in St Louis(mgs on line) as late as 1874. 1880 Cen Eugene 42 (b 1818) is a Capt stm ship; his brother Theodore 38 is a clerk, listed as single tho he married in 1865. 1850 Daniel Lavielle & wife Rebecca is listed at Louisville. People of this surname at Louisville as late (maybe later) as 1911 City Directory. 1850 he has 3 children (2 boys & 1 girl) all born MO who is very apparently not his children. 1850 Cen of St Geneieve Co, Mo is a Mary Lavielle 29 b Ky with 2 daus & a son listed in her household, along with George Matingly 33. One of the daus is Olivia--she m as Olivia Augusta 1865 St Louis. (remember this name!!!!). My GGf John Oliver Lavey (Levy) was sent by Bishop Spaulding from Louisville to St Thomas Orphan Asylum. The record (finally found!!) stated: pts dec'd, of French parents. Family tradition: father worked on the river between Louisville & New Orleans; Father died, mother went to take care of his affairs--took sick and died. John's name was Oliver Augusta but changed by the nuns because it wasn't a saint's name. Brother Charles Henry Lavey's CW papers says he was born France & his mother died & the father took the boys to Louisville where he died of cholera in 1849. Henry was 6 in 1852 on entering the orphanage-- Orphanage paper says "entered the seminary". Charles Henry didn't ever marry. Ky Deaths (on line) lists both Charles & Henry Lavey--both dec'd at Louisville. Have not checked death cert. to see who the parents are on both certs.(others to check also--Daniel Lavielle, wife Rebecca, son Hite who is listed in the 1911 City Directory, Laura, widow of Daniel (a younger man); etc, etc.). Still chasing & trying to solve this problem. 3. Hi Listers, I'm searching for the family of my great grandfather John SCOTT born abt 1854. Details on his marriage certificate show that he was born at Ballymoney, Antrim, Ireland, and his fathers name was Archibald. John married Caroline Isabella VINCENT at Yeovil, Somerset, England in 1878, and they emigrated to New Zealand in 1883. John died 1908 at the age of 54. I'd be very pleased to hear from anyone who may have connections. Finding information on Johns origins and ancestors has been a real brickwall. Look forward to hearing. Regards, Warren Hamilton

    3. Below is information ( documented) on two brick walls. I would really appreciate any help, even the smallest clue. My search is for the parents and siblings of both John M. SCOTT and wife Margaret A. DOWELL (Duvall?, Doyle?,McAdoo, Dial, McDowell?, Powell? Howell?). I have come to believe this Scott family is related to the Nelson County and Hardin County Scott's. I have found this family on census records in 1850 in Jefferson Co., KY. A central location is Perry County, Indiana. Margaret/Margret A. Dowell applied for a pension as the widowed mother of John H. Scott .(died in the Civil War) The pension papers verify much of the information found in two family Bibles and in some loose notes in them. Additional information is that they were married by Rev. B. (Barksdale?) SNYDER/SNIDER Margaret stated her husband JOHN SCOTT died in April 1877 in Perry County IN, but we can find no record . Other names on documents that imply a connection to Margret and John are LESHER (Lasher? Fletcher?), WINTERS, BROWN, BARGER, AKERS, E. TERRY, and MITCHELL. I have found John and Margaret on census records in 1860 in Indiana, in 1850 in Jefferson Co Ky. Later records only show Margret living with various children. May have found John in Martin County early 1800's and Breckinridge county in 1840. May have found John living with a sister Margaret and husband Walter Mounts in Saluda in 1870. Margaret states she was born in Virginia. After many years I have a lot of information related to the descendants, but little to pinpoint John and Margret's parents. JOHN M. SCOTT was born 24 Oct 1815 in Kentucky. He married MARGARET A. DOWELL 04 Aug 1836 in Breckinridge County, Kentucky. (No Proof except her affdavit). She was born 15 Jan 1813 (but some census records indicate she is younger than John.), and died 19 Sep 1898 in Lamar County, Missouri. Children of JOHN SCOTT and MARGARET DOWELL are: 1. i. BOOKER SMITH SCOTT, b. 18 Nov 1838, Kentucky 2. ii. KATHERINE KITTY ELLEN SCOTT, b. 14 Jan 1839, Breckinridge Co., KY; 3. iii. FRANCIS C. SCOTT, b. 19 May 1841, Martin Co., IN. 4. iv. JOHN H. 3. The Georgia Civil War listing for the SCOTT line I previously posted doesn't seem to work. Try the following: Go to http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Eusgenweb/ga/gasearch.htm and enter the following in the Query field: Scott AND Civil War then select SEARCH. Then select the proper file. That should work for you. Dan Scott -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Version: 7.0.308 / Virus Database: 266.9.1 - Release Date: 4/1/2005

    1. SCOTT Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" a group of old photographs which appear to belong to the WESTFALL-CUMMINS Family of Ohio. The photographs include: 1 - Sue SCOTT of Kenton, OH, Leila PHILLIPS of Dayton, OH, Cloyd BROTHERTON of Lima, OH, and Ralph WESTFALL of Delaware, OH, taken 13 April 1891, all appear to be in their early 20's at the time. With limited research I did find a Susie M. SCOTT living in Kenton, OH with her family during the 1880 census. Her parents were J.S. and Almira SCOTT ages 36 and 32, both born in OH, her father a carpenter whose parents were born in PA and MD respectively. Susie M. was age 7 at the time and her brother, Chase W. SCOTT was 1 year old. I also find Lella Delight PHILLIPS b. 16 Dec 1873 at Galma or Galion, OH to parents Theodore Augustus PHILLIPS and Delight ALLEN. The family was recorded in the 1880 census living in Dayton, OH, with T.A. PHILLIPS age 44, born in NY a Railroad Superintendent and Deliah age 40 born in PA to NY born parents. They had 5 children living with them at the time, Blanch age 13, Theodore A. age 10, Lella age 7, Ermia age 6, and Mildred age 2. All the children were said to have been born in OH. Lella married George W. BAILEY on 17 Oct 1900. The couple was living in Dansville, NY during both the 1920 and 1930 census reports. 2 - Ralph WESTFALL, taken at the Bo Durtha Studio in Delaware, OH, taken in the 1880's, subject appears to be in his late teens or early 20's 3 - R. E. WESTFALL, no studio or location, taken in the early 1900's, subject appears to be in his 40's at the time, address "34 Woodland Ave" appears on the back of the photograph as well 4&5 - two copies of a photo of Thomas CUMMINS, taken at the Vail Studio in Marion, OH, probably in the 1880's or 1890's with Thomas appearing to be in his 50's or 60's at the time 6 - unidentified male, Bo Durtha Studio, dated 1906, subject appears to be in his 70's at the time 7 - unidentified male, Dupont, NY Studio, 1930-1950, subject in his 30's 8 - James Cummin WESTFALL, Princeton, June 1927, graduation photo, appears to be in his 20's, appears to be the same man in photograph #7 above An additional photograph recovered along with these is identified as Clarence COOPER, taken in the 1890's or early 1900's with no studio or location identified. I'm hoping to find someone from these families so that these precious old photographs can be returned to their rightful place with family. If you are a member of one of the families, or know of someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
