I'd like to get things re-started by suggesting a ROLLCALL AND BRICKWALL call. So please post your ancestors relevant to this surname list and, most of all, let us know what your BRICKWALLS are! Please be focused and to the point - don't list entire pedigrees! The subject line should have a full name (if appropriate), locale abbreviation, a direction of migration, another locale abbreviation, and the approximate dates. For instance, George Scott moving from Scotland to New Brunswick, Canada, to Kentucky around 1820 to 1840 would look like: SCOTT, George SCT>NB CAN>KY abt. 1820-1840 If you don't know the complete name, migration route, or dates, it is permissible to leave them out of the subject line and put an explanation in the message body. However, the more complete the subject line, the more likely someone with a similar interest will read your email. Seeking information about the parents of and probable immigration of a Walter SCOTT. When his first wife, Esther (surname unknown) died in Cecil Co., MD, Walter m. a Grace RUMSEY and had an additional family. Based on the Mormon IGI file Film No. 2034384, Walter and Esther were the parents of my John SCOTT, reportedly b. ca. 1695 in St. Steven's Parish, Cecil Co., MD, died ca. Oct 1760 in Rowan Co., NC. There is a mention of my John SCOTT in Ramsey's "Carolina Cradle ...", p. 125. He is the head of Family 477 in the former SCOTT One-Name Study. He had, at least, a son also named John SCOTT, b. ca. 1735 probably in VA or NC (who m. Agnes REED (ca. 1760) and died in 1811 in Livingston Co., KY); a son named James SCOTT, b. ca. 1737, and a daughter, Mary SCOTT, b. ca. 1738, who m. a John BURNET. We are reasonably sure our immigrant SCOTT ancestors were Scots-Irish and I strongly suspect he came into the U.S. through DE, MD or PA. We would certainly appreciate any assistance or clues and would be happy to exchange genealogical information with other SCOTT researchers. Please reply direct to: <bengantt@hal-pc.org>

John Scott born PA, married unknown spouse daughter Martha Ann born 1847 Terra Haute Vigo Co IN. Ended up in Boone Co IA circa 1870 daughter born 1870. Who was John Scott? Who were his family? Who did he marry? May reply off list to: wyoeagle@webtv.net
Hi, I am new to this list and I hope someone can help or at least offer advice. My 3xgreat grandmother was married twice. Her name was JANE and she was born in Cheshire in 1837. Her first husband was '*** SCOTT'. JANE and her first husband had two children, THOMAS SCOTT born 1862 in Liverpool and JOHN SCOTT born 1865 also in Liverpool. So I calculate that the couple were probably married briefly between 1855 and 1862. By the information on the 1871 census Jane had remarried my 3Xgreat grandfather Edwin Pollitt, a police constable. I have been able to follow Thomas and John and know who they married, the names of their children etc. But I don't know their fathers first name, or their mother's maiden name. I have tried looking for a Thomas or John snr but I am not having any luck so far. Can anyone offer any advice as to what steps I can take. Or better still, does anyone recognise this family. If so, please get in touch. Kind regards Syl - UK

Hi Charlie, I might be interested yet am have only the maternal line from my gg grandmother. I know DNA tests differ for paternal & maternal lines. What value might there be in my doing this? I will be glad to check your ancestors against the people in our database regardless if you do the DNA testing or not. Hi Charlie ... Another group is doing DNA testing. They will not allow female members to be tested. Will you? Unfortunately, there are only three remaining male Scotts in our line. One is under 4 and I don't want to even consider trying to get him interested. The other two are adults who don't seem to have an intersted.
