    3. Hi Anthony Unfortunately, we have all been stumped by some Scott brick wall. Yours can be resolved fairly easy :) You will need to go through the Index at a family history centre, and request all the certificates that might be relevant to the birth of Ann Norah SCOTT When ordering the certificate, you can stipulate that her fathers first name is William. There is an index on line 1837online.com but it is pay per view. FreeBMD might have the info, but is far from complete. You can solve it... But it may cost you s hundred dollars or less It took me almost 6 years of searching to finally find my illusive Scott ancestors who like you gave a different place of birth in each almost 3 different census before they disappeared again after 1881. 1. -Help needed- Desperately searching for Ann Norah SCOTT married HILLMAN

    3. Hi Listers My 2x great grand mum Ann Norah Kate Kennedy SCOTT was born in 1862 in London (Whitechapel -2x mentionned- or Bromley -1x-) according to 3 different census. Unfortunately, there is no way to find her birth certificate. Her father's name was William SCOTT as shown on her marriage record with Joseph HILLMAN in December 1880 in Stepney, London. There again we were absolutely unable to locate William on the 1881 census. The SCOTT family is not to be find in the 1871 census, meaning they could have been living abroard for a while. To complicate the situation, Ann Norah K K appears as Hebe HILLMAN in the 1881 british census, as Kate Hillman in the 1891census and as Ann HILLMAN in 1901, everytime she was living in London. We are three working on this case and none of us managed to make a single crack on the brickwall. Could SKS help us with it. Thanks in advance. Anthony Leboucq

    2. Dear Ron, Was it you that kindly sent me the Births and baptisms for Orkney for the names Scott and Peace. If it was I would like to say a very sincere thank you as I found many members of my family - yet to be verified by certificate of course. I appreciate your time and effort. 3. Hello Sue, If you have access to the LDS Family History Libraries, you can bring in films on the respective areas for the price of 5$ U.S.. Otherwise, the bad news, is that Scotland has discovered a huge source of income. As such, you must pay to get genealogy information from Scotland, whether you pay to go into the SRO (Scottish Records Office) or do the internet . If fly to Scotland, (how cheaply?) then go into the SRO, it costs 15 British Pounds (B.P.) to enter the doors. The good news, they have indexed most of the census' and you you will be able to view the actual census. You can also do multiple searches on all their BDM's and again you can look at the actual record. Their internet access is one of the easiest and best of any country in the world. You can and should register on the Scotlands People website http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/index.aspx Take the time to learn about the site by cliking on "Getting Started" which gives primers on basic genealogy as well! as how to use the site. Thereafter, you must pay the princely sum of 6 B.P. to search their site for specified amount of information. For 6 B.P. I got four birth registrations for my family. That's a lot less expensive and quicker than driving to & fro a Family History Library, ordering film, and returning six weeks later to take six hours or more to view that un-indexed film which could have 2500 images. Ron

    3. Hi List, I am starting my research in Scotland now. I have been researching since 1993 but I am only accustomed to US, Canada and England research. I do not know if there is any cost to look at a film. I am disabled so cannot get to FHC in this rural county. Now, my question. If anyone is going to GRO or has a way of looking at the films while they are doing their own research, could someone check on a name for me and tell me what the name says? On ScotlandsPeople, it is transcribed as Robert SCOTT 20/08/1769. I am hoping that is a mistake and the name is Robina. I can see where a transcription error could be made with that name. The sex for Robert is U. There is a Douglas line "somewhere" in Robina Scott's lines from what I have been able to find but all research stops with Robina and her husband, James EWING. I have ordered their marriage record. Here is the information from ScotlandsPeople. There are 2 Roberts with the same parents and birth dates. Just Frame number is different, for some reason. I think they are the same person. No Date Surname Forename Parent Names/Frame No. Sex Parish GROS Data 2 20/08/1769 SCOTT ROBERT JOHN SCOTT/JEAN DOUGLAS FR152 U WILTON 810/00 0001 3 20/08/1769 SCOTT ROBERT JOHN SCOTT/JEAN DOUGLAS FR311 U WILTON 810/00 0001 Thanks for any help you can give me. I am hoping this is my husband's lines and I can order the birth document and then check on the marriage for the parents. Sue in Florida macduff@infionline.net

    1. Who assassinated Campbell Scott in Paris 1766 & why?
    2. Kenneth Scott
    3. Scotts, I have used Google to search for this answer, but only come up with this simple text. Does anyone know any more about this? Who killed him and why? ========= http://www.electricscotland.com/webclans/families/scotts.htm "The Duke’s brother, the Hon. Campbell Scott, was assassinated in the streets of Paris on the 18th of October, 1766, and immediately after this sad event his Grace returned to London." ... "HENRY, became third Duke of Buccleuch in 1751, and in1810 he succeeded to the titles and large estates of the Queensberry family. He was educated at Eton, and in 1764 his Grace and his brother, Campbell Scott, set out on their travels, accompanied by the celebrated Adam Smith, author of the ‘Wealth of Nations,’ who received an annuity of £300 in compensation for the salary of his chair of Moral Philosophy in the University of Glasgow, which he had of course to resign when he undertook the charge of the young Duke. Their tour, which lasted nearly three years, afforded an opportunity to the philosopher and his pupils to become acquainted with Quesnay, Turgot, D’Alembert, Necker, Marmontel, and others who had attained the highest eminence in literature and science. The Duke’s brother, the Hon. Campbell Scott, was assassinated in the streets of Paris on the 18th of October, 1766, and immediately after this sad event his Grace returned to London." --------------------------------- Yahoo!
