Hi List, I do not have a whole lot to go on at the moment. I am trying to find either baptism date or parents' names for John SCOTT who married Jean DOUGLAS. John was born in the first half of the 1700s and a search on the GRO gave me so many names, I don't even know where to start. I know they had several children born in Wilton, Roxburgh but, on the birth register for a child, the right side of page was tattered, like it had been torn from registry book and I cannot make out where he was from. I am going to throw out two guesses and say either Denholm or Dumfries. All you can make out is the letter D where it gives his name and says "of". I have a long list of possibilities that I copied and pasted from GRO. The GRO gave me 35 possible baptisms for just a 10 year period between 1735 and 1745. I came up with that time area based on the baptism of one child in 1869. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sue in Florida macduff@infionline.net

There has been a slowdown in activity on this list in recent days due to the holidays. I'd like to get things re-started by suggesting a ROLLCALL AND BRICKWALL call. So please post your ancestors relevant to this surname list and, most of all, let us know what your BRICKWALLS are! Please be focused and to the point - don't list entire pedigrees! The subject line should have a full name (if appropriate), locale abbreviation, a direction of migration, another locale abbreviation, and the approximate dates. For instance, George Scott moving from Scotland to New Brunswick, Canada, to Kentucky around 1820 to 1840 would look like: SCOTT, George SCT>NB CAN>KY abt. 1820-1840 If you don't know the complete name, migration route, or dates, it is permissible to leave them out of the subject line and put an explanation in the message body. However, the more complete the subject line, the more likely someone with a similar interest will read your email. BE SURE TO INCLUDE THE LOCALE AND DATE RANGE IN YOUR MESSAGE even if they are only your best guess. Both can make a huge difference in locating a likely connection! For more information about using this list, see the Frequently Asked Questions and List Rules sent to you when you subscribed to this list. This document explains just about everything you need to know about using the list, unsubscribing, etc. If you need a copy of this document or any other assistance relevant to this list, please let me know. As for using the list, it can be boiled down to these three simple rules: 1. BE NICE. No "flaming" of others, offensive language, or nasty criticisms of posts. 2. KEEP ON TOPIC. By that I mean genealogy pertaining to this surname. No virus reports, or commercial advertising, etc. Rootsweb has a list for a variety of interesting topic include virus reports and genealogy materials for sale. My brick wall is Dr John Scott, born abt 1800 in possibly Limerick, Ireland and settled in Carmel, VA. He married Sarah Ann Durbin in Lewis County, MO in 1838. Due to thier age difference of 21 years I believe he may have been married prior. Dr John Scott and Sarah Ann Durbin (of IL) had the following children as seen in the 1850 Census of Lewis County, MO...John Randolph Scott 1839, Isabella Scott, Janette Scott, Mary L Scott (I believe maybe Mary Logsdon Scott named after Sarah's mother) and Robert Emett. The above children are from John and Sarah's union, due to the dates of birth. By the 1860 Census of Lewis County, only John Randolph Scott appears in the Lewis County Census, residing in the home of the Lane family at age 21. The Lane's are cousin's to John R's soon to be wife Louisa H Dougherty. I have not been able to locate John Randolph Scott's parents, or siblings after the 1850 Census. John R and Louisa married in 1861 and settled in Andrew County, MO and although a farmer, he is also listed as a doctor. From this union, 12 children born, only 8 survived to adulthood. Joseph Sterling Scott, William Lane Scott, Charles Lane Scott, Duddley Wallace Scott, Janette Scott, Earley Rucker Scott, and John Randolph Scott Jr. Any assistance on the family of Dr John Scott born abt 1800, married to Sarah Ann Durbin is greatly apperciated. Christopher Sterling Scott

Hello, This is a first time for me on this list. I am trying to help a cousin son with his grandmothers family line. His grandmother died a couple years back and they know nothing at all about that side of the family Pauline married at age 13 and left and never got to see her family again. There is a Sophia Scott that married James Lynn below dose she belong in anyones line on this site or dose anyone have any information on her and her family. I would welcome any help at all. Thank you, Barbara The following appear to be William T. Lynn with his parents and siblings in 1870 and 1880, with his parents' birthplaces agreeing with the 1910 census. In 1880, for each of the children, the parents' birthplaces are listed in reverse order even though they're listed correctly for the parents themselves. 1880 Census of Jasper, Crawford Co., Arkansas - p. 507A - 1 June J. His age is listed incorrectly in this census year - see 1880, 1860, and 1850. Nancy may have been the second wife. I believe the following 1860 census is the same family, with William's father, James, apparently being a widower. The older woman may have been James's mother, perhaps with a second married name, or she may have been an aunt. ... 1860 Census of Van Buren, Cedar Creek Tshp., Crawford Co., Arkansas, p. 147 / 753 - 24 July James I.
