After James' death JW continued the family business, was postmaster in 1842, practiced dentistry and was known as Dr. Scott. JW was also an inventor, he made his own dental instruments, and designed and made a musical instrument called a melo-phean, a forerunner of the piano; Smithsonian catalogue # 248,305. 1. [SCOTT] SCOTT, William, b: abt. 1750, probably Scotland
    2. Scott M. DePalma
    3. This is an update of an old inquiry. Try, try again. I am looking for info on the wife, children and ancestors of William Scott, b: abt. 1750. His path may have been Scotland>N. Ireland>MA>W. VA>OH. He arrived in Kinsman, Trumbull Co., OH in 1803. He reportedly had two children, Nancy b: 1775, and William b: June 3, 1777. William, Sr. was killed by a falling tree supposedly at a very old age. William, Jr. lived in Wheeling, W. VA prior to moving to Trumbull Co., and fought in the War of 1812. Nancy married George Mathews abt. 1798 in Trumbull Co. Any information or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Scott Scott DePalma Saugatuck, MI

    1. [SCOTT] Joseph Scott, Trigg Co., KY early 1800's
    2. Joyce Glover
    3. Looking for information on Joseph Scott, born around 1780, location unknown. He married in Oct. 1803 in Harrodsburg, Mercer Co., KY to Rhoda Hale. They later relocated to Trigg co., KY where he died in 1814. His parents are unknown, but he associated closely with other Scotts in Mercer Co., who also came to Trigg Co. at about the same time, so I am assuming they were probably siblings or other close relatives. They were Thomas Scott, Margaret Scott Vanderslice, and Samuel Scott. There was also a William Scott in Trigg co. at about the same time, records indicate he was born in York Co., PA in 1767. Joseph and Rhoda had the following children: John Hale Scott m. Annie Carr Agnes m. William Shelton Ruth m. William Carr Jesse m. Margaret Davis Mary (Polly) m. Johnathan Elliot Jane M. m. Benjamin Craig I would love to find the parents of Joseph Scott and would love to correspond to anyone connected to this family. Thanks, Joyce Glover

Prediction now is for sunshine to melt the snow; however, the temp needs to get above 21 degrees for that, doesn't it? I woke up thinking I may have moved back to Ohio........ 3. Dear Dorothy, Do you possibly still have the SCOTT one-name-study from your library? I am looking for William SCOTT and his son, Richard SCOTT, mentioned below. Any information on these gentlemen and their families would be appreciated. Thanks! Fredreica Henry SMITH and Elizabeth BALL married Dec. 13, 1764. Their daughter, Harriet SMITH was born August 22, 1772 in Hyde Park, St. Johns Parish, SC, and died October 19, 1822. She married 1789 RICHARD SCOTT (only son of Col. William. Scott and Mary Waring, daughter of Richard and Florence Waring of Pine Hill.). He was born 1768. As per Fred Crump, it appears that this William is he who was listed in "Abstracts of Rev War Pension Files", by White. This William is listed on page 3050, of the abstracts as William, SC Line, BLW #2305-300, who served as L/COL, and died 1807, leaving two children, Richard and Susannah. Richard died before 1842, leaving six children. Susannah married first, James Stanyarn, and secondly, T. Lehre. Susannah died 1830. 1. [SCOTT] Holidays and Email
    2. If you're going to be gone for an extended time, it is possible that your email box may fill up. If this is the case, the surname list will attempt to deliver new messages for only so long and then will assume your email address is no longer valid. When this happens, your email address will be dropped from the subscription list. When you return from your holiday trip and empty your overflowing emailbox, you may soon suspect that you're no longer getting email from this list. If that happens, please feel free to drop me a line and I'll check to make sure you are on the distribution list. After the new year, I'll send out a message to this list explaining how to find the SCOTT surname list archive and look for relevant missed messages.
