In response to post on Scotts of Russell and Washington Co, Va- There is mention of all of these names in Chaulkey's Chrinicles of SW Va which is on line in the Augusta Co Va archives. There is especially information on Rev. Archibald Scott. I am VERY , VERY interested in the JOSEPH SCOTT listed . I have a Joseph born by 1765 possibly much earlier who appears out of the aky in Giles Co., Va in 1810. If anyone has information on the Joseph who is brother to these men, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you !!!!!! For that matter, if ANYONE is missing a Joseph SCott of this time period and would like a cousin, he's up for grabs!! Thanks, Barbara

Is anyone on this mailing list researching the Scott line from Lawrence Co., MO. James Alexander Scott who married Elisa Alzona Kellett. They both are buried in the Odd Fellows Cem., Marionville, Lawrence Co., MO. Kathleen Burnett
My my what a response I got. For those that asked I have a David Scott in my family. All I know about him is that he was born in Scotland, lived in Ireland where he met his wife, Margret Wheeler. They moved to England and lived in both Nottingham and Manchester England. All this in the 1800`s. Does this ring any bells? Ian
These are my Scotts. I'm still trying to find out more about the Thomas A. Scott that wrote this document. He married Phoebe Drake and Phoebe was from Athens Ohio. There is a chance that this Thomas A. Scott also married Emily Clutter of Athens Ohio. Also that Emily may have had a previous marriage with a daughter Celestia who married S.B. Phillips. Thomas and Phoebe Scott definitely had a daughter Angeline who married Elijah Hodge and lived in Greenville, PA. Ira C. Scott is my ggrandfather and is the son of Thomas A. Scott. Thomas may also have had a daughter Elizabeth who was a Nurse and a daughter Marrietta. If anyone has seen Thomas and Phoebe or Thomas's parents Francis Scott and Elizabeth Axtell on a census anywhere please let me know. Please, I can't seem to find them. Ira was born in Pa in 1860 as shown on a Colorado 1900 census but I can't find him anywhere else. Thank-you Marsha Written by Thomas A. Scott Chillicothe Ohio Feb. 2,1900 William Scott, the first of the name that we have record of. Was born in Scotland in 1710. At the age of 23 years he went to Ireland where he remained some years. While there he married Catherine Denny.(Biographies of Patrick and Adam Calhoun indicate that their mother was Margaret Peggy Calhoun or Calhoon, not Catherine Denny) In 1741( 1734 ) he emigrated to the Colonies landing at Philadelphia, settled for a time in Chester County Pa., afterward on the Susquehanna River, 6 miles below Harrisburg. Tradition states he later lost his life while ferrying passengers over the river, during a storm and was wrecked on a rock. He together with his passengers, a man and wife, were found huddled together on this rock frozen into an almost solid cake of ice. Isaac Friedline, of Athens County Ohio, told me that he was acquainted with the location, and that as late as 1852 it was called Scotts Rock. Afterward a pier of the Pennsylvania Central Bridge was built upon this rock. At his death he left a family of a wife and seven children. Francis , the oldest, Robert, the second, and William, the third. His descendents still live in eastern Pennsylvania, This man William is said to have been an attorney at laws, also a judge a Harrisburg. James, the fourth son was my grandfather. We will refer to him farther on. Patrick Scott, the fifth son, settled, lived and died near New Wilmington, PA, was an Elder in the Neshannack Presbyterian Church. Adam, the sixth son, went south and is lost to view. There was on sister who married a Mr. Mc Combs. Now we will take up the history of James Scott. After serving through the war of 1754-1763 he went west. Married and settled on Mountains Run, (Montours Run)six miles west of Pittsburgh, on the south side of the river. After some years he moved across the Ohio River, and settled on the little Senickley(Sewickley). Here he spent his life. He was twice married, first to Jane Powers by whom he had three children, William, James and Jane. His second wife was Rachel Farbis by whom he had six sons and two daughters. His sons were Hugh Scott, married in Pennsylvania, afterward moved to Bristol, Morgan County, Ohio, eight miles east of Mc Connellsville, some of his grandchildren live there yet. Adam Scott spent all his live on Little Senickley(Sewickley). He was over eighty years at his death. Francis, the third son was my father. Fourth son, Arthur Scott, spent most of his life on Little Senickley. In his old age he went to live with his children in northeastern Missouri. Here he died. John S. spent his live near little Senickley. Robert, the sixth son, also owned a farm at the head of Little Senickley, near Fairmount Church. My Aunt Catherine married her cousin, James Scott, son of William Scott, the Judge. Aunt Margaret married Pacal L. Moore, who lived at Salem Ohio many ears, finally moved to Lyman County, Iowa. We will now take up Francis Scott, my father. Born Aug. 9, 1782 in Allegheny Co., PA., Married to Elizabeth Axtell, Aug. 15, 1805. He served through the was of 1812-1814, under Commodore Perry in 1813, helping to construct and man the fleet on Lake Erie, helping to gain the grand victory of Sept.10, 1813. In the succeeding year serving under Gen. Brown, driving the British from a hard fought field of Lundys Lane, near Niagara Falls July 25, 1814. Died Feb. 2, 1846, age 63 yrs.,5 months, and 21 days. My parents, Francis Scott and Elizabeth Axtell had ten children, four sons and six daughters. Rhoda, born Oct. 21, 1806 Rachel born March. 13, 1809 Ruth born Sept. 19, 1811 William H. born Jan. 31, 1814 -------------died March. 17, 1894 Sarah born August 18, 1816 Alvah born July 8, 1819 -----------------died Oct. 13, 1883 Daniel born Oct 29, 1821------------------died Dec. 18, 1831 Margaret born Jan. 27, 1825 Thomas A. born Aug. 25, 1830-------------------died Dec., 21, 1904 Louisa A. born Nov. 29, 1835 __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Clara got pneumonia and died, 1853. Thanks....
Hi Ian I am also searching for Scotts in England. Cumberland in fact. Mary Ann SCott had Emma 1838 in Farlam but that is all I can get at present. Must agree with you that most inquiries seem to be American connections. My Emma went to Australia in 1858. Jean
