    1. [SCOTT] Listowner Announcement
    2. I have identified the subscriber sending the virus attachements and have removed him/her from the subscription list. I have also blocked any messages from this subscriber from getting to the list or the person re-subscribing. This should prevent further problems from this source. I have not yet determined the full nature of the virus or if the person sending the virus was aware they had it. I have not yet determined how the sender was using our list to distribute the virus - Rootsweb isn't supposed to let file attachments through on mailing lists. I have not yet found a good description of the virus or how to remove it from any of the antivirus websites. If someone finds one, please let me know. Please do not download/open any files you are not expecting to receive - whether they are from friend or stranger. Keep your antivirus software up to date and running! As new information is available, I'll keep you informed. Now back to the important stuff -> finding our ancestors and cousins! David Scott SCOTT Surname List Administrator

    1. [SCOTT] Scott / Larremore Connection in AR>TX
    2. Nicole Wiebe
    3. My gggrand father was John R. Scott, he was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on Nov 12, 1826 and died in either Llano or Burnet Co., Texas on July 29, 1907. (There is no death certificate for him in Llano) He is buried at Hoover's Valley Cemetery next to his 2nd wife Rhoda Recca Hughes and his 1st wife Catherine Smith. I find John on the 1850 Williamson Co., Texas census with his brother William, they are living with a Laremore family. I'm told that the Elizabeth listed is Elizabeth Ann Scott. Can anyone confirm this? Is she John's sister, aunt or cousin? Also is anyone tracing the family of William? I'd appreciate any help given. 1850 Williamson Co., Texas Census Family #58 Laremon, John - 37 - M - Farmer - Kentucky Laremon, Elisabeth - 33 - F - Arkansas Laremon, Sarah A. - 12 - F - Arkansas Laremon, Geo. W. - 10 - M - Arkansas Laremon, Samuel H. - 6 - M - Texas Laremon, Lewis T. - 5/12 - M - Texas Scott, John - 24 - M - Farmer - Arkansas Scott, William - 21 - M - Farmer - Arkansas (ID #323- #328 - John Laremon) Last name could be Laremore. Scarbrough uses Laremon. Percy uses the Laremore.

    1. [SCOTT] List Administrator: Nude Photo may be virus
    2. Although I have not been yet able to confirm this, I have seen speculation among listowners that the nude photo attachment some list subscribers have complained about receiving may actually be an email virus. The sender may not sent the message intentionally. If this information is true, this virus seems to be able to mutate the subject content and the attachment name. The version I have seen has the message "> Take a look to the attachment." (note the bad grammar) and an attachment called "Sorry_about_yesterday.DOC.pif" -- there are other versions with a file attachment named "Me_nude.AVI.pif" but in either case you should not download/open these files - even if you know the sender. If you did, you are infected. It is always a good idea to update your antivirus software, but now would be an especially good time. If you receive the a message with a file attached with a double extension like these, they are automatically suspect. You should aways suspect any file sent to you with a DOC, PIF, EXE, COM, BAT, SHS, or VBS file name extension (ending). There are very few reasons for sending files of this type by email. If you do receive a message like the one described, please do the following. 1) DO NOT open/download the attached file. 2) Let me know who the sender is 3) Let me know if the message has a [SCOTT] prefix in the subject line. In theory, no message with an attachment should ever come attached to a Rootsweb-sent message. If it does, it is very important that I know about it so that Rootsweb can be properly informed. As I learn and confirm more about the suspected virus, I'll let you know. David Scott SCOTT Surname List Administrator

    1. [SCOTT] Greenbrier County Scotts.
    2. Barbara Scott
    3. Hello Scotts, I have been lurking on this list for several months. Now I would like to share about my Scott family. This information is from the "Scott Family Record" by Anna R. Edminter, written in 1959. She left no sources for her information other than she wrote they she got it from her Grandfather, Charles B. Scott son of John Scott. My Great, Great-Grandfather--Robert Scott b.10-15-1770 d.6-1-1841 [He would be my ggg-grandfather.] My Great, Great-Grandmother--Elizabeth (Croft)Scott b.10-4-1790 To them was born: 1. Robert Scott b. 3-1-1809 d. 4---1874 2. John Scott (my Great-Grandfather) b.1-16-1812 d. 12-18-1871 [He would be my g-grandfather.] 3. James Scott b.10-13-1813 d.8-30-1890 4. Sabina Scott b.10-1-1815 d.9-20-1906 m.Andrew Brown 5. Polly Scott b.10-31-1817 6. Elizabeth Scott b. 1-4-1820 d. 11-19-1862. m. John Jarrison [I believe this is an error and that Elizabeth married John Morrison.] 7. Catherine Scott b. 3-4-1822 d. 4-26-1892 never married 8. Cyrus Scott b. 8-8-1824 d. 3-14-1885 9. Thomas Scott b.3-15-1827 d. 9-15-1827 10. Moses Scott b. 3-15-1827 d.9-17-1911 *Moses and Thomas were twins 11. Anna S. Scott b. b. 2-28-1830 d. 7-15-1852 12. Martha Scott b. 9-11-1832 d. 9-17-1908 m. George Lowdermilk. Had one son who lived in Oklahoma [I think the spelling was probably in error, believe it was Loudermilk.] My comments are in brackets. I have found this Robert Scott family in the 1840 Federal Census of Greenbrier Co, [West]VA. It is a good fit down to the 20 year difference in age between Robert and Elizabeth and accounting for children who had died and married by 1840. There are marriage records for Robert Jr., John, maybe James, Sabina, Elizabeth, Cyrus, Moses and Martha in Greenbrier and Pocahontas records. I have found Robert, Cyrus, John, James maybe, Elizabeth and census of Greenbrier, Pocahontas and Jackson Counties. I have more documentation about John and his children that shows Anna R. Edminster was fairly accurate with her "Scott Family History". At this time I am speculating that Robert Scott could possibly be the son of Thomas and Jemima (Dozier) Scott who lived in Lunenburg, VA and moved to Craven, Co. South Carolina. There were Crofts living in Craven County, SC at the same time. Is anyone else researching these families? Does anyone on this list have access to records in S.C.? I have more written about John Scott and family on my website, www.scottfamilyplace.org. Their moves from Greenbrier Co. to Jackson County, [West] Va to Missouri to Washington State are well documented. This website is a work in progress, changes are made weekly. Cheers fellow researchers, Barb Scott

    1. [SCOTT] Scott/Fogle in TX & CA
    2. beth hayes
    3. I'm trying to find a close relative for a friend. She's been looking for him for over 30 years and has just recently found out even his name. He never knew about her because her dad was never told about her birth. His name is Harold Lee Fogle b May 29, 1955 in San Antonio TX. Parents Otis Fogle b in 1921 and Rosavon Scott Fogle born in Bastrop TX. Between 55 and 59 his parents divorced and mom and son moved to CAlif. His Dad died in 1962 and he could have been adopted by a stepfather. I have found that a Rosavon Scott is listed on the World Family Tree vol 30 Tree 664. If anyone has access to that program and could send me info on her, especially her marriages and husbands names i would greatly appreciate it. If I'm able to unite them I will most definately let everyone know. Thanks Beth --------------------------------- Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
