    1. [SCOTT] SSAN Solution
    2. K . B. Cook
    3. Fellow listers, Here’s an appeal to all of you to pull out the copies of the SSAN application forms you already have filed away in your "stuff" and post them at Rootsweb. I just did it for the ones I have and it’s really easy. :O) 1. Go to: http://www.rootsweb.com/ 2. Scroll down the home page to Social Security Death Index and click on it. 3. Enter the name of the person who is on the form you have into the search engine. 4. When the right entry comes up, go over to the far right and click on "Add Post-Em" link. 5. The "Fill in the blank" form will come up and you can type in the information just like it’s printed on the form you have in your hands! 6. Include all the information in the order that it is entered on the form, so that others have the advantage of all that information. NOTE: You don’t have to type in the SS Number for the person as the Rootsweb program includes it. Since the cost of these forms will be increasing substantially next week, it would be good if EVERYONE put out the information they already have. Then whoever else is searching for that same person won’t be required to pay the new price for the same form you have in your files. And vice-versa! If we all "plant seed," we’ll all get the crop! And thank Goodness for Rootsweb providing this service to all of us for FREE! Be well & God bless, Kate Beaugrand Cook Minnesota [email protected] or [email protected]

    3. I just thought I would spread the word that the fees for getting a copy of a Social Security Application are going up drastically on 1 July 2001. If you apply before then you will be charged the old amount which is now $7 if you know the number, and $16.50 if you do not. The new fees are posted at: http://www.ssa.gov/foia/foia_guide.htm It appears that the increases are more than substantial, they are gigantic. This means that the time for procrastination is over. The address you need to send them to is: Social Security Administration Office of Central Records Operation Attention: Freedom of Information Workgroup PO Box 17772 300 N. 1. [SCOTT] VA & NC SCOTT's
    2. List, looking for my gggg-grandma. The story starts out in, New Hanover Co., NC. Clara SCOTT was born to Isaac and Mary SCOTT in 1815. She married John Beasley ROUSE in 1834, New Hanover Co., NC. She and John raised the family at "Long Creek Township." John and Clara paid taxes in 1846 on 400 acre's. In 1847 John and Clara evidently sold the property and moved to McCracken Co., Ky. Clara died in 1853 of pneumonia, she and John had seven children at that time. John, remarried and the family went on. We have the family after that but the wall starts in New Hanover Co., NC. Isaac SCOTT is shown in the register of the war of 1812, in Duplin Co., NC along with a Benjamin and David I think. He is listed as well in the Will of Dr. Loomis of that area as well. Please, Scott's..........Jim Rouse, is pulling out what hair he has left-Ha! From Randolph AFB, Tex. Jim sends......... If this connects.......I have plenty to share....................

    1. [SCOTT] Bernice and Dorothy SCOTT, Newport News, VA, c. 1910-1920
    2. Please reply to the original poster, not me! Administrator Subj: Bernice and Dorothy SCOTT, Newport News, VA, c. 1910-1920 Date: 6/9/2001 4:43:53 PM Central Daylight Time From: [email protected] (mckimmy) To: [email protected] List Administrator, I'm trying to help a friend locate information on his father's first wife and a half-sister that he's never met. The wife's given name was Bernice and he believes her surname was SCOTT. Two children were born of the marriage - Dorothy (c. 1916-1924) and a son nicknamed "Bubba", possibly named Joseph, birthdate unknown. Adding to the confusion, the husband may have married under an assumed name taken so he could join the Army while still underage. His real name was Louis Marcellino LOMBARDI; he may have assumed the name Joseph DAPALMA. He joined the Army sometime around or after 1915 and was stationed in Newport News, VA. It is possible that the couple married and the children were born in that vicinity. The marriage probably ended in divorce, so it is possible that the children were raised with any of the surnames LOMBARDI, DAPALMA or SCOTT (if they reverted to their mother's maiden name). It is possible that his sister, Dorothy, and brother, "Bubba", might still be living, though all other known individuals who might know details are deceased. Any leads would be greatly appreciated. Mary Beth McKimmy Williamsburg, VA

    2. I am looking for any information on a Raynold SCOTT that worked in Dayton, Ohio grinding air propellor blades for GM about 20-30 years ago. He had a half brother named Paul SCOTT. He had a son with Ada PRICE (I don't think they ever wed) and his name was R.D. PRICE. Raynold and Ada would have known each other in Kentucky. Maybe in the Greenup area. Any help would be wonderful as this is a "family secret" and so genealogy help in this area has been like trying to get blood from a turnip! LOL Thanks bunches.

    1. [SCOTT] SCOTT Search
    2. Forever in search of descendants of my great grandfather George SCOTT, born 1836 in Thornley, U.K. He married Rebecca Henderson 1858 at St.Giles Church, Durham City. The family moved about northeast England, known to have reside in South Hetton, Trimdon Colliery and finally Houghton-le-Spring. Their children were Martin, Ralph, Frederick, Francis, William, Margaret, Charles (my grandfather), Henry and Grace. Rebecca died 1881 at Trimdon Colliery. Sometime after that George married his servant Sarah Jane Osne. The census of 1891 shows this couple to have had children Hannah and Annie. George SCOTT died and was buried in Houghton-le-Spring in 1912. Best wishes, Charles Scott Dallas, Tx. USA

    3. Here's the link to Symantec's writeup on this hoax. It also has advice on how to get back the file if you deleted it. http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/sulfnbk.exe.warning.html Note that you should ALWAYS check with Symantec (or your antivirus site of choice) before forwarding a virus warning: http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/index.html Usually these hoaxes are just annoying, but in this case it looks like actual damage can be done. My apologies to the List Owner for continuing an off-topic thread. ----- Original Message ----- From: "D J Peirce" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, May 30, 2001 2:07 PM Subject: RE: [SCOTT] Virus Warning > Check the Virus Sites....I saw a notice that it was a hoax and if you delete > it, it will damage your programs...I also have it on my computer....check > before you delete... > > Doris....A Texan in Georgia; > Still shaking the family tree, > and dodging the nuts after 35+years! > <Member IBSSG> > > -----Original Message----- > From: Max Scott [mailto:[email protected]] > Sent: Wednesday, May 30, 2001 4:29 PM > To: [email protected] > Subject: [SCOTT] Virus Warning > > > This is a multi-part message in MIME format. > --------------C491E908BF5C086FCF4E6128 > Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii > Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit > > I was alerted to a dated virus "SULFNBK.EXE".
