I too am interested & very frustrated at the lack of information that I have been able to turn up about my SCOTTS. Josiah D. Scott,b 1806-Virginia(according to the US census),d ?-don't know location either. He settled in northwest Missouri with his wife,Jane McKee, family & a group of relatives & acquaintances from Indianapolis, Indiana. They arrived there sometime around 1845-6. The other surnames in that group were Bush, Dryden, Roberts, Mullis, Kime and Merrill. Is Joshua also a common substitute for Josiah ? I have the usual frustration of working with such an uncommon name as SCOTT. Ha ! Any clues or tidbits are welcome. I am still looking for origins of or any information about Nancy Scott...prob. born in Ohio about 1802. She was married on August 4th 1825 in Ross County Ohio, to John C. Donnel(l). Son William (M.?) was born August 16, 1826 in Ohio. There were also children: Nancy, John, Henry, Mary, Thomas S. Eliza J. and Ezra A. Is there a hint here in her parents names? Did these people of that time and place use a naming system, or was anything in particular customary then? The Donnel family came from Pennsylvania. I would appreciate any hints or possible information. Thanks so much. Diane in Iowa, USA mailto:[email protected] icq# 8679306
Hi, I am looking for Robert SCOTT, born abt 1755, married Susannah FAIRCHILD 1785 Epping Uplands, Essex, England. Anyone with connections? Carolyn Gregory [email protected]
Connie, Can you list the names and spouses of Peter Scott's children? I have a Scott ancestor by the name of James Julius Scott born 1804 KY who moved to Crawford Co, AR by way of Pulaski Co, MO. Crawford Co is just a hop away from Carrol Co. where Peter resided. James Julius also named two daughters Nancy. Toni
Does anyone have a John Scott in Covington County, Mississippi, in 1830? I saw an index for the 1830 Census which showed a Scott. I know John Scott was living on Leaf River in 1831. If anyone has that census, would appreciate a look up. Thank you, Lola.
Connie: From another correspondent I have a William Scott b. 1823 in KY and his parents b. in NC, but no names given. He married Mary Bagby. My William was born a bit earlier (probably 1797)) and married Mary Thornton in 1816. However, he could have been a cousin of your William. He moved to Henry County, Indiana in 1830's (a little later than I advised a previous correspondent) and subsequently to Macon County (Decatur) IL. He died in 1850 in that county. He had children James b. 1817, d. 1844, married Mary Ann Campbell; John b. ca. 1822; William M. b. 1823; Samuel L. b. ca. 1824, died in TX, and married an Ellen I think; Mary b. 1826, married George William Campbell in 1850 in IL; Jeems or Deems; Martha, b. 1828, d. 1898, married Milton Brown whose descendants also are in TX; Richard T. b. 1830, d. 1886, married Sarah Stewart; George???; Joseph b. 1833, d. 1911, married Virginia Querry; Daniel F. b. 1835, d. 1913, married Sarah Sheppard daughter of James Sheppard and Rebecca Jewett originally from Pickaway County OH; infant who died young. Then I have another William Scott b. 1795 in SC (maybe) whose father was John Scott b. 1763 in PA; mother Nancy Keith. William married a Nancy and had 13 children. Our Scott ancestors sure had a lot of children!! Now that I am digging through files, I find some info that might be of use to Ben who started this correspondence. This is just a scrap from someone else whom I can't identify but here it is: John and Jane Scott lived in Huggan Ing, Sawley Extraparochial District, Yorkshire, Eng. in late 1600's They had five children who survived and with their parents sailed to America, supposedly on the Britannia, arriving before 1700. Settled in PA. Town Edgely mentioned. Also Bucks County. The five children are listed as Ann m. John Baldwin; Sarah married John Smith; John married Hannah Merrick; Thomas married Mary Davis; Henry married??. Well, maybe some of this information will ring some bells out there. All the best, Maureen
Do you know what county in KY? Maureen
I am sorry to say I do not have information about the father of your John Scott. I am writing in response to your posting because it is the first posting that positions Scotts in the areas and at the times I am interested in, namely Virginia, Carolinas, Kentucky late 1700's. Did your John2 or Joshua have a son William or grandson William who might have married in northern KY in about 1816? Does your family have any known connection to the Thorntons? William Scott's family also migrated to IL ca. 1830's Many thanks. Maureen

Attention Researchers with Robeson Co NC Roots! July 10th, 2001 the Robeson County Heritage Book Committee will be having their meeting at 7:00 pm in the McLean Room of the Robeson County Public Library in Lumberton, NC. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. The Robeson County Heritage Book will be written by hundreds of people who submit stories on their Robeson County connected ancestors. If your ancestors were from Robeson Co NC, then we encourage you to submit stories on your Robeson Co NC ancestors. If you do not put your family's story in the book then no one else probably will, and the end result is that they will be left out of the publication. You don't have to be a Rhodes Scholar to write a story. You can make your stories just as simple, or just as elaborate, as you wish. If you are interested in this project and would like to be placed on the mailing list to receive a brochure [brochures should be in from the publisher by late July], then send us your name and smailing address to the e-mail address listed below: [email protected] Thanks, Sam West Lumberton, NC
Just a short update on my genealogy. I found Thomas A.Scott (son of Francis Scott & Elizabeth Axtell )with wife "EMILY" in 1880 Zaleski,Vinton Co., Ohio with children *** IRA ***, Elizabeth, Marietta,William T., and Virgil. All the dates match up. Past records showed Thomas married to Phoebe Drake. I have figured something happened to Phoebe because there was another Thomas A. Scott in Athens married to an Emily Clutter in 1865 which is about 10 years after he'd married Phoebe. IRA would still be the child of Thomas and Phoebe but the rest are Thomas and Emily. I just wrote to San Juan county Historica Society in Colorado again. I just found a previous bit of correspondence that I'd had with them last year and stowed away. They have a couple of 1908 pictures of Ira and his wife Mary so I sent them $10. and requested copies of them. Talk to you later Marsha __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo! Mail http://personal.mail.yahoo.com/
