Hi I am a new member to your list. I am looking for information on William Scott born 1846 whose father was James. He was the brother of Walter Scott of circus fame but although I can find lots on Walter I can find nothing on William. If any of you have come across him I would be interested to hear from you. Ann Barber
I have been researching Scott's on Indiana and Illinois for a year now and wondered if any one has heard of a James Willard Scott. This suddonly came into the picture when I picked up a death certificate on my great grandfather James William Scott. Nothing else was written about him on the death certificate but just curious if this was a mistake or if someone knows of him. Would have been before 1855. Thanks Connie Wright, Lincoln,NE
Laurie, Daniel Scott, my third great-grandfather was born in either SC or NC (both have been listed on census) in ca 1792. He was in Ohio County, KY when he married Rhoda Lanham in 1814 and then into IL prior to 1820. Evidently he died in IL even though I have not found a death date nor a burial site. He was there in 1870, but gone by 1880 and he was in his 70s on the 1870 census. Darlene
Good evening fellow genealogists!! Its great to be back home after a month of travel in Switzerland (daughter lives in Baden) and other interesting places. When I left on June 19th I thought I had sent out ALL the orders for Hagy's thesis, Castle's Woods-Frontier Virginia Settlement 1766-1799. If I failed to respond to an e-mail or misplaced an order please contact me so I can resolve any outstanding situations. I hope those of you who received a copy enjoyed it and any feedback would be appreciated. This document is important for many of us with southwest Virgina ancestry and I am happy to provide it to interested researchers. Probably the best book for Augusta County/Rockbridge County research is Tinkling Spring, Headwaters of Freedom by Howard McKnight Wilson first published in 1954 with a single reprint in the mid 1970's. I would love to be able to provide this resource to you but unfortunately it is under copyrite. Here is the good news!! Yesterday I received an e-mail from Pastor Fred at the church and he told me that the Session met to discuss my request for permission to reproduce the book for fellow genealogists (that request was denied) BUT they have decided to reprint the book. I will keep everyone advised on this project and highly recommend the purchase of this book as soon as it becomes available. There is an early landowners map in the back of the book which shows where everyone on the Beverly patent lived and it is amazing how many of those families ended up next to each other in southwest Virginia and east Tennessee. I think you can get a copy of the map through the Rockbridge county Historical Society for under $10.00. As you can see, we are working our way back in time from Castle's Woods to Augusta/Rockbridge County (1740's-1750's) and it is my desire to provide a link to Ulster which might provide the necessary clues to make the family connections between the Ulster/Virginia families that many of us originate from. The best resource I have found is a pair of obscure books written in the early 1900's by the Reverend Alexander Lecky titled, "In the Early Days of the Laggan Presbytery" and its companion book, "The Laggan and Its Presbyterianism." Lecky has compiled much quality information on the Presbyterian families that lived in the fertile, low-lying area around Derry/Donegal that was referred to as the Laggan in early times. This data is organized by Parish and includes hundreds and hundreds of family names that are a mirror of the names found in Augusta/Rockbridge County just a generation later. Since the names are by Parish and townlands it makes sense to study the allied families so for example if you see the following: Taboyn now Monreagh Matthew Lindsay, John Aikine, Alexander Houston, Robert Cowan, Archibald Alexander, Robert Scott, Wm, Mackie, Wm. Bell, John Kilgour, James Moore, John Graham, John Gay, Richard Armstrong, and others Parish of Raphoe Robert Anderson, Patrick Bell, Alexander Stuart, William Ramsay, Robert Walker, Robert Gray, John McClure, and others This information is extensive and gives us an interesting picture of the arrangement of families kind of like the early land owners map of Augusta/Rockbridge county. These books are a must if you are searching for a connection between Ulster and early Virgina. They are not copywrited and I can make copies for interested researchers. There are 211 pages of serious material. Contact me privately if you are interested in obtaining a copy. Regards, Robert Cowan 525 Harrogate Rd. Matthews, North Carolina 28105
Hello Darlene I know that they lived in Granville, Putnam County Illinois. I have them in the 1900 census. George and Melvina Scott were married in 1875 in McHenry County, Illinois. I put a query on the list for McHenry County, but never got a response. I also put one on the Illinois Census list and they didn't show up in 1880. I have since found out that they had a child born in Granville in 1876. They must have moved right after marriage. I would have thought they would be on a census at some point in McHenry County. The 1900 Putnam County census just states born IL. Parents born England. Laurie A family member thinks that George's father's name is John Thomas Scott. George was born May 1, 1852 and
Laurie, <<<I am researching the family of George Thomas Scott. He was born May 1, 1852 in Illinois. He was married to Melvina Andrews in 1875. They had six children. Three surviving infancy. Orville, 1876; Harvey, 1886; Pruella 1879.>> What is the birthplace of George Thomas SCOTT? My Daniel SCOTT moved to White County, IL prior to 1820 census. I find his descendants in White, Hamilton, Saline and Gallatin Counties. If you don't know the county of birth, did they remain in IL and if so where have you found them on census records? George Thomas Scott would have been on the 1860 census. Darlene
Israel Scott, b. C1755 probably in NJ. He married a Mary. They had children: Rachel, John, Samuel, Joseph, Mary, Elizabeth, Phoebe, & Ruth. Israel died in 1830 in what was then Burlington Co., NJ. During the Rev. War Israel served with the militia in Nottingham Twp., NJ. I suspect that this Israel Scott may have been the grandfather of my ancestor Israel Scott. Therefore, I am searching for children of the older Israel Scott's sons. (John, Joseph, & Samuel) I believe that at least one son moved across the river to PA. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hi, I have located an A M Scott in the biographical area of the ancestry.com. Since Allen was an author and the dates fit, I feel the reference may have some info I can pull full. I am not a member of ancestry.com. If anyone is a member I would greatly a look-up on Allen McBride Scott. It seems I am more successfull in using just the initials with no dots: a m scott. Thanks. I'm looking for any information on Alexander Earl Scott who was married to Elizabeth "Bettie" Ann Richardson. 1860 and 1870 census information indicates they were both born in Kentucky. Their children were Hugh, Robert, Alaminder 'Allie' G., Alex Anna, Caladona A., and Herminella "Erm". Alex Anna, Caladona, and Herminella all married Hollands and wound up in Hill and Johnson counties. Any information would be appreciated. Nancy Krevis [email protected]

Being that there are twentysix counties in Maryland which one were the Scott's from. Thankyou for your help; David G. Sasher
Does anyone connect to a Hugh Randolph Scott, born Aug 11, 1858 in Alabama? He married Palmetto T. Barnett (sp?), b. Sept. 10, 1861. Hugh died either 1942, Palmetto died 1943. The only child I have for them is John Douglas Simpson Scott who married Madgie Dora GENTRY. John was born June 1887. I am sure there were more children, but I don't have their names. John and Madgie had ten children born in MS. Is anybody able to connect? I have all ten children's names and will post if someone thinks he might have a connection. Thanks, Margie Scott
Thank you for the many replies to my inquiry. I have a Joel Mannen Scott born June 1823, not exactly sure where, but he was supposed to be half Indian, not sure where the info that he was Cherokee originated. I made a mistake when I answered some of you and said he fled to MO then MS. I should have said MO and then AL. Children or grandchildren from his first marriage later moved to MS. Children from his third marriage moved to OK with their mother. Children from the second marriage changed their surnames. Joel died July 25, 1891 in Hodges, AL. Joel had a brother, James Wesley Scott, born 1826, who went with him and their grandmother...a Native American...no name known. MO seems to be where the brothers split up. Joel and the grandmother eventually going to AL and James riding by horseback to Texas. I know nothing about James' family. I have names of the children and some grandchildren and great grands of Joel from the first and third marriage. Any help appreciated in seaching for Joel and James ancestry. I was told Joel was on a NC census record, but have not been able to find this source. If one of his parent's was Indian, then from reading history, it is likely that his father could have been the trader for a tribe. They often married a woman in the tribe. I am looking for any angle on this. Mistakes in family histories are always possible, so if you see any possible match, any tribe, please e-mail me. Thanks, Margie Scott [email protected]
Anyone have access to death records for MA during the years 1945-1960? I'm searching for information on Gilford Charles Scott. Thanks ever so much. Evie Scott Kent, WA
Margie, There was a Scott (given name unknown) who was a Creek trader at Hillabee, 1772. A Dick Scott, Cherokee, the son of Walter Scott, a white man, and a Choctaw woman. Dick was the brother of Margaret Ann "Peggy" Scott, wife of Chief James Van. In 1811, Dick had a son, Sam, eight years of age. George Scott, Chickasaw trader, 1766. John Scott, white man, born about 1782 (my ancestor). He married a Choctaw woman and brought his 3 children to Indian Territory in 1832. He held no property in Mississippi before removal so he could have been a trader or possibly a gambler. I have never found him after 1832, nor his other two sons, Washington & Morgan Scott. Thomas Scott, Creek trader at Hillabee, 1771. Walter Scott, white resident among the Cherokees. He was reported as being among the Cherokees in the late 1770s. Hope this helps and if by chance you are a descendant of John Scott, would like to hear from you. Dear Joanne: If you could contact me at [email protected], I would appreciate it. Because of a virus (now gone), I was unable to contact you. I feel your Scott line may connect with mine. Carolyn in Indiana
