Hi List, I'm a new subscriber to this list and I'm searching for information on Donald ROSS, b abt 1765(?) somewhere in Scotland, died in 1843 in Guysborough, Nova Scotia. Donald was a Loyalist during the American Revolutionary war and it appears he may have come to America with a Highland regiment sometime during the war. According to township records, he was granted land in Guysborough, Nova Scotia in 1783 following his evacuation from the New York area. He may have come to Guysborough with the Port Roseway group. I'm trying to learn where he came from in Scotland, which regiment he belonged to, and who his parents and siblings were. Any information greatly appreciated. Many thanks! ~~~Pam Outgoing mail scanned by Norton Antivirus 2003
Pam, have you tried the Nova Scotia list? Many folks responded to my BROWN queries. Pam, The Ross name is predominant in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, so if you can sift through the bundle of them, you may find your man. At least they're not spread all over the country (grin). Perhaps try the website where you can search for documentation.... http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ It's a pay site but well worth it if you save up a few jobs for your hunt in there. It costs six pounds sterling to go in and it's valid for either 24 or 48 hours (I forget now), but you can have a look at certificates or OPR's and print them. I think you get a credit to open up 30 certificates all up but then I forget that too.
