John, I don't live in Montreal, but grew up near there & spent quite a bit of my younger years there. My son Ryan lives there & am sending him a copy of this to see if he can find any records of the St. Gabriel, Presbyterian Church there. St. Gabriel's has always been known as a Roman C. church, and in those days they were baptized in any church where they could find a preacher to do it. This occurred in the area where I was raised & for many years a Presbyterian Minister was not allowed to perform baptism's/ marriages etc. & only the R.C. Priest was allowed. I think it was Rev. Bethune who was in Montreal & moved to my territory that had this practise changed.
