Numbers of Irish facing starvtion in Ireland elected to immigrate to Quebec,Canada on what came to be known as 'coffin ships'. Substantial numbers of children whose parents died on the voyage or shortly after reaching Quebec were adopted by French families. Some of those children retained their Irish names which can still be found in Quebec yet, albeit, with a French accent. JDW
