Malcolm, 1881 shows Adam listed in Aldborough, Elgin West as MCLAIN, born Scotland, age 56 so born c. 1825 . Son John is with him (age 22) and a 49 year old Janet MCLAIN whose relationship is not obvious. She's the right age to be Adam's sister, but born in Ontario - this might give you ideas about immigration dates. Alternatively, if "49" is an error, and should be "19", she could be John's sister. Or, no relation at all! As for the 1901, Adam et al don't show up on the Automated Census project yet http://automatedgenealogy.com/census/index.html If you go to that site, you can identify the pages of Aldborough that have been transcribed, and concentrate your search on the pages which have not. There are a couple of older John McLeans which brings up the possibility that Adam had a brother John & hence named his son John. > The originals of the 1901 census are online so you could search the whole township although it would take time. > > Margaret Ferguson Benelli > > > > > > I am looking for the birth of an Adam McLean circa 1825 probably Ontario; and > > info on his parents > > Adam died 10 July 1909 and is buried in New Glasgow Pioneer (Kilfinlay) Cemetery > > Elgin Co. > > also looking for his marriage to Mary McKinlay b 1835 Aldbodough Twp.
