Hello Lorraine in NZ: I took a look at Toronto city directories yesterday to see if I could find anything that would help you. I found that the address 33 Queen Street West was listed for a photographer by the name of Harry Cooke from 1911 to 1914, except in 1913 when it was listed for a photographer by the name of John McLaughlin. There was no listing for Queen Studio under either in the Photography classified business section or in the alphabetical name listings. The name of the photographer and their address was shown only. In 1915 this address was listed as a restaurant. I didn't look prior to the 1911 date you gave in your initial listing. So the date range that Robert was in Toronto could be from 1911 to 1914 at least. I looked for Robert BEATTIE and found several from 1911-1918 but most gave only the name Robert with no middle initial. Their occupations and home address were given as well and this might give you a clue. I also looked for your ROSS family (Jeannie & Tom). I found a few listings for Miss Jean ROSS over the time period but the none of the Robert BEATTIE nor Thomas ROSS listings had the same address that I noticed. There were 6 Robert BEATTIEs listed in 1915 and 9 William BEATTIEs (in case he went by the latter). If you would like the detailed listings that I have, please contact me off list.
