What does the death at U.S. Consulate in Canada mean? I found an old friend in the Social Security Death Index. I lost contact with her when she moved from Boston, MA. It listed place of death as: U.S. Consulate in Canada. Was she visiting? Was she in jail? What does this mean? She was a great person - what happened? Betty New York
Hi Betty, I would suggest it means the registration of the death of a US citizen who died in Canada. It's a shame it doesn't say which consulate, because there are US consulates in major ciries right across the country...not the same as an embassy which is only found in a country's national capital. Cheers!
