Seeking marriage or origins of Arthur STRACHAN who married Angelique RACINE before 1794. This marriage is not found in any of the traditional marriage repertoires. (Angelique is said to be the daughter of Jean-Baptiste-Clement Racine and Marguerite Monty, m. at Chambly, Quebec - sources: Blue Drouin and the PRDH.) Also seeking who would be the likely notary for St-Joseph-de-Chambly in the 1780s and 1790s. First known child, baptized Catholic, Jean-Baptiste (John), in 1794 in St-Joseph-de-Chambly. Other known children, all either married or baptized Catholic are: - Marguerite STROKEN, b. before 1795, m. Antoine Grise in 1812 at St-Joseph-de-Chambly. - Jean-Baptiste, b. 1796 at Chambly, m. Clotilde COMETTE in 1830 at St-Athanase de Iberville. (He first m. Louise MONTY in 1821 at St-Luc, comte St-Jean, Quebec) - Angelique, b. 1799 at Chambly. - Sophie, b. about 1800 (could possibly be "Angelique"), m. Pierre BROSSEAU in 1819 at St-Luc, comte St-Jean. Arthur STRACHAN later married Genevieve Laurent dit Jeanjoffe in 1813 at St-Joseph-de-Chambly. They had 3 known children: Albert aka Hubert, Julienne and Adelaide. This Hubert/Albert went by the name of STRONG. Arthur STRACHAN is called "about 76 years old" at his death in 1840 at St-Athanase, comte Iberville. He is also called "anglais" and "etranger" and "sergent au 26ieme regiment" and "cultivateur" in the various records mentioned above. I find no land records in his name in Quebec. Family tradition is that he was Scottish. This man has been a dead-end for me for over 20 years and is my direct ancestor. Regards, Shari Strahan Massachusetts
