Benjamin Gunn had endentured himself to the Hudson's Bay Co in Scotland 1813. He, his sibblings and parents left Scotland same time but on different ships. Benjamin on the Eddystone, the immigrants aboard the Prince of Wales. Both ships belonged to HBC. Typhoid broke out on the Prince of Wales and the captian put in at Ft. Churchill. A few weeks ago I was in Winnipeg at the Manitoba Archives/Hudson Bay co Archives and found that Benjamin changed ships and finished the trip aboard the Prince of Wales. He held various positions at different HBC posts over the years until 1827 when he is listed at Ft. Garry, Manitoba (not far from Winnipeg on the Red River) as a Freedman. I take this to mean the term of his endenture or contract was finished and he is next found in Elgin Co., Ontario in 1828. So he didn't come directly from Scotland to Elgin Co. in 1828.
