    3. Hi, I have found my gggrandparents some time ago on the LDS site. It was a patron submitted file for their marriage bann. I can find the same info on the Ayrshireroots site so it must have come from and old parish register. If I can find this film and order it from the LDS, will I get any more info. When I was last in to the FHL I asked about the entry and they told me that whoever researched it wanted it kept private. That accounts for the IGI entry but what about microfilms of the OPR? I searched the FH catalogue and came up with the Ayr OPR film number. Does anyone know what info would be shown on these? I seem to hit this roadblock at every turn as many ancestors records have been submitted to the LDS temples. Does anyone know about the LDS family history research? Do they research and seal direct descendancy or do they do branches as well? Any thoughts, hints, anything? Judy Dustbowl, Saskatchewan

    3. Judy, I would look at the film even if there was nothing else to be located for this particular ancestor. The possibility exists that the individual submitting the name to the IGI missed something. Also if there is one ancestor on the film ,there may be others. The fee the FHL charges really only covers postage, and is very reasonable. The film will always be available for you to order. I also would discount the fact that the submitter wanted the information to be private, and write a letter to the Church Genealogical headquarters in SLC, Utah, requesting that your letter be passed on to the submitter, and any other submitters that might be listed for this name. Often submitters check this area but are more than willing to communicate with mutual descendants. Also when referring to private, the majority are really meaning to say current day information. Members research and perform ordinances for their direct decadency line first where possible, but they do branches as well ! It really depends on the individual submitter, so there is no hard and fast rule. You often, really can't even tell about branches from the Ancestry file, unless the submitter was aware that when there lines were submitted they either all had to be submitted at the same time, or when a new family was added that it was entered with the original submission information. If this doesn't occur then the new family will not show as being connected to the original family. Also LDS researchers are just like every other researcher and some are super stars and others are questionable, so like any other work, it needs to be validated for accuracy. You do have one advantage, someone else has researched your ancestor so you have a trail hopefully to travel, and validate.
