    3. This is from an old Cdn newspaper clipping that was cut out, which was in an album belonging to my gr. grandfather Charles Mcintosh James S. Mcintosh On may 7th, 1846 Lieutenant James S. Mcintosh's 5th infantry formed into fighting squares with eight pound cannons at the corners. The front rank dropped to one knee, locked and loaded while the second rank prepared to deliver the next volley. Cannon and rifle fire echoed across the battlefield as the fifth regiment squares opened fire on the Mexican Lancers at a distance of 100 feet. Lancers were blasted off their horses while others charged onward and the first rank of soldiers stepped back to reload. the second rank dropped to one knee and fired on command. lancers and horses vanished in swirling clouds of smoke. The lancers won the battle leaving killed and wounded soldiers and amond them lay the body of Lieutenant James S. Mcintosh with his sword still clutched in his hand. He was 17 years old. I know that some Mcintosh families from Canada moved to the USA, and I would like to know more about this one if possible If anyone has further information on this writeup please drop me a line. maggie nee mcintosh mpeters@xcelco.on.ca
