I know that most people probably have this set but wanted to mention that I'd be happy to look stuff up for anyone who doesn't have it. The set covers all of Canada and is pretty good for finding out where your ancestors were so you can find them in the 1901 census. By the way..... isn't the 1901 census wonderful? I was thrilled to find out when some of my relatives immigrated and how much money they made. Sherry
Thanks for the link Bruce, if I can figure out how to use it without using a credit card then I'll be all set. LOL. We decided 4 years ago that if we can't pay cash we don't need it and cut them all up...... been working fine until today. I have ordered marriage certificates from Scots Origins, and they contain a wealth of information, on all I have ordered they have recorded the names of the parents, with the maiden surnames of the women as well. Also gives place of marriage, the age at marriage, occupation, and they give the names of witnesses to marriage, and the names of clergy performing marriage. I have always felt they are a worthwhile purchase, in going back a generation. One thing one has to keep in mind is the fact that Civil Registration was not kept until 1856, but I have purchased two documents prior to 1856 and all the pertinent info was there. I can tell you from my experience that the actual documents from Scots Origins DO contain much more info than the index does. Could be a selling tool. If they tell you just enough then you'll order. BUT I must say I was extremely pleased with the birth certificate I received. It had even more info that I dreamed it could. tamiz ----- Original Message ----- From: Beverley <bevwaller@shaw.ca> To: <SCOTS-IN-CANADA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, July 13, 2002 11:41 AM Subject: [SCTCDN] New to list, searching Sim, McPherson > Alexander Sim b: ? married February 07, 1817 (Old Machar) Aberdeen to Helen Malcolm b: June 04, 1797 (Old Machar) Aberdeen, Scotland > > I got the marriage information from Scots Origins but it does not show parent names, how do I find further information on Alexander Sim from this point? First, thank you to all who sent a reply to "Just Checking." I had joined this list and then only got my own initial post. Glad to know that there are people out there. My immigration question is that I found a Malcolm Campbell who married the sister of my gr-gr-grandmother. His detail says: a.. Birth: 1835 in Scotland a.. Emigration: 1840 The Barque Tay to NY from Greenock a.. Event: Census 1881 Gore of Lochaber, Ottawa Co., Quebec Now I have two other Campbell lines that I'm trying to link to Malcolm. William Campbell, born about 1828, went to Gore of Lochaber Quebec from Scotland also but we can't find anything about him. How would I check to see if William and Malcolm were brothers? The other Campbell I have is Mary Ann Campbell born about 1856 in Quebec and married a Thomas Toal. Malcolm had a daughter named Mary and I'm hoping they are the same..... has anyone come across any of these names to link? CAMPBELL, McKENZIE, SMITH, McCORMICK or TOAL. Thanks, Sherry
To find out the relationship between Malcolm and William, the best site is Scots Origins http://scotsorigins.com/ You can pretty easily search for the whole family there. Hello all, I'm currently working on my father's line again. William CRAIG brought my branch of the family from Paisley to Metis in 1820 aboard the ship "Rebecca". Also aboard that ship was the George CAVIL family of Yorkshire, England. As soon as William's son Alexander and George's daughter Angelique (called Ann) grew up a little they married and had fourteen children, all born in Metis. Those children grew up to marry into the following families: CAMPBELL, BLUE, SMITH, JEFFREY, PAGE, ANDERSON (of Ontario, this is my line), MORRIS and CLARK. If any of these Scots/Canadian surnames look familiar please contact me. Barbara (Craig) Wright Slidell, Louisiana BL30x90@aol.com

Sorry everyone...... I thought this was a busy list but haven't received any messages so thought I'd send one to see if it goes through.
Greetings All. In my last posting I indicated that I had attended a town hall meeting put on by my MP, James Moore, and reaffirmed his support for access to Historic Census records. I was unaware at the time that a reporter for one of our local freebie newspapers was in attendence and heard my questions to Mr. Moore. This afternoon I was contacted by her and she has made an appointment with me for Monday morning to obtain information on our campaign and our legal action. She is bringing a photographer with her so in my own area at least we will have a little more publicity for our efforts. This reporter did another article on me and our campaign about two years ago. Community newspapers are a good means of exposing the Census problem and our efforts to seek a resolution to it. While they are primarily sources of commercial advertising, they cover local issues as well. It may well be easier to get a letter to the editor printed in a community newspaper than one of the larger publications. Calling one of the columnists and explaining the problem to them could well result in them writing an article that further exposes our efforts. This could work especially well for someone already known in their community for their genealogical or historical research. Should you manage to interest a columnist in the Census issue, and they want information you feel unable to provide them, do not hesitate to refer them to me by email, fax or telephone. My contact information is copied below. Feel free also to refer them to the Post 1901 Census Project Website at the URL following my signature. I would appreciate receiving copies of any articles that might result from your contact with these community newspapers. Happy Hunting. Gordon A. Hi everyone, I think I'm new to the list. At one time I had signed up for a bunch but found it too much. Anyway, I have Scots to Canada in two or three different lines but haven't had much luck so far. Hoping someone will see a connection here. William CAMPBELL, born abt. 1828, immigrated from Scotland to Quebec sometime before December 1858. He married Elizabeth SMITH who was born abt. 1828 in England and the two children I know of are (my great grandfather) John A. CAMPBELL born December 1858 and Alice CAMPBELL born abt. 1861; both in Quebec. John A. CAMPBELL married Isabella McCORMICK about 1881 and her parents were Michael MCCORMICK born abt. 1829 (immigrated from Ireland in 1842) and Barbara MCKENZIE born about 1826 (immigrated from Scotland 1850). All of these people were in the Gore/Lochaber area of Quebec from 1871 to 1901 census. John A. CAMPBELL and Isabella MCCORMICK moved to Cochrane, ON Canada by 1911. Mostly hoping to find John and Isabella's marriage as well as a death record for William and Elizabeth. Sherry
