Hi Elsie P.E.I is a part of Canada. I am searching ancestors from P.E.I. The only Scottish ancestor I have in P.E.I. is a McConnell back in the late 1700s. Most are English and a few are Irish. There is a good site at: http://www.islandnet.com/~jveinot/cghl/cghl.html it has a number of good Canadian sites. Yes, Prince Edward Island definitely IS part of Canada! And well-settled by Scots as well! It was called "L'Isle de St. Jean" during the French Canadian period, "Island of St. John" until around 1791 when it became PEI... I'm so pleased that we are getting some topics that are slightly wider than pure research usually would be. For those who may not have read (shame on you!!) the remit of this List, or may have forgotten (excusable maybe!!) here is what's on the Welcome Menu - In brief, this is what this List is about - "SCOTS-IN-CANADA. A mailing list for anyone with a genealogical, historical, or cultural interest in people of Scottish descent in Canada and their contributions to the birth and development of Canada that place the lives of our ancestors in perspective". Thanks, David. This email was scanned with Norton Anti Virus 2002.
I am searching for information on George MORTON, he was b in Scotland between 1842-1852. His father was George MORTON 1812-1875, mother was Janet MAIR 1812-1882. George moved to Canada in the 1880's and lived on the South Shore of Hudson Bay. He worked in earlier years with the rangers and Indians. He died in either late 1917 or early 1918. Does anyone know anything about this MORTON family or where I could look for further information? I really do not have much to go on. Pat

GORD - I would suggest that you may wish to forward the email to the nearest US Consulate for investigation. Slainte!
Greetings All. Since my earlier posting on this, about an hour ago, I have received more than 60 responses. (I wish that my Post 1901 Census postings got this reaction - <]:-) ) Most of these response are of the opinion that the message referred to was a scam, and one suggested that it was not. Some of those responding indicated that they had forwarded the message to a number of security agencies, including the FBI and the Security Section of the US Immigration Services, or suggested that I do so. My thanks to Barney Kaufman, Penny Nicol James, Kelvin MacKavanagh and Kelvin Kean for the following informative URLs http://travel.state.gov/visa_bulletin.html www.us-immigration.org/gclot.htm http://www.ins.usdoj.gov http://www.ins.usdoj.gov/graphics/services/residency/divvisa.htm Whether or not the message I received was (or is) a scam, my earlier caution regarding responding to messages of this type remains in place. Before providing large amounts of information to anyone sending you a similar message do some checking to ensure that the offer it provides, and the source from which it originates, is legitimate. Thank you to all who responded to my earlier message. Now back to genealogy. Happy Hunting. Gordon A. Greetings All. On checking my email this morning I received the following message which I find suspicious. I have no proof that this is a scam, however I feel that if this were a valid message it is unlikely that the US Immigration Services would be using a Hotmail email address. I feel certain that they would be using an address that clearly indicated that it was a valid US government address. For the US Immigration Services to be contacting me directly I feel that I would have had to make prior representations to them myself, which I have never done. I have never had any contact with them. I urge anyone receiving a similar message to use extreme caution in responding to this, or similar messages. They are not only asking for a $25.00 USD processing fee, but are asking for a great deal of personal information that might be used to the detriment of those responding. Happy Hunting Gordon A. Hi Alison, Thanks for the advice.... unfortunately I have no idea of what church as no records for them other than census has been found. Two grandchildren's baptismal records were found but that was due to their mother being Catholic which the rest of the family were not. Even the Catholic marriage wasn't found though. Anyway, thanks for answering. Hello Marjorie. That is a neat story about the house. To have the old "century home" or homestead that have been in the family for generations must be a charm to have, I have been in a few homes that people have bought just because they like an older home, but to have one that has connections way back to the original settlers from Scotland is a Godsend indeed. Even your address today rue des Ecossaise, that is something! You certainly do have ties there that bind don't you? Thanks for sharing, I do a fair bit of researching and this is one of the nicest stories I have read in ages. Hi there I am looking for information on NEIL CAMPBELL and his wife of KINCARDINE, BRUCE COUNTY, ONTARIO abt. 1910. I believe they were childless and took in a girl named JEAN LEITHEAD (pronounced : light - head). She stayed at the Campbells for several years. Also, their nephew WALTER HOUGH lived with them. An article appears below. PTE. WALTER HOUGH HOME Was Wounded at Hill 70-Still Has to Use a Cane - On Wednesday evening the 13th. lnst. Pte. Walter Hough arrived home unexpectedly and there was no welcolme for him. This was not thet fault of the citizens as not even his Uncle Mr. Neil Campbell, knew of his coming. He enlisted at Weyburn Saskatchewan, on December 8th., 1915 with the 152nd. Battalion. He went overseas in September 1916. He went to France in April 1917, being drafted into the 5th. Battalion when he saw steady action until August 16, 1917 when he was wounded at Hill 70. He was shot in the left leg and thigh and it was of such a serious nature that he was sent to England where he has been ever since under treatment in the various hospitals. He sailed for Canada on October 31 on the Neuralia arriving in Halifax on Nov. 10th. He suffers from a stiff leg and is still under hospital treatment. He hopes he will eventually be cured but fears he will never have the same use as he once had of his leg. He has a farm at Weyburn which he gave up to enlist and do his bit. He will spend a week with his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Neil Campbell before returning to Burlington Military Hospital. On Thursday the 14th. he was given a reception at the same time as the arrival of Pte. Lake.' Thanks for reading this Judy in Canada
